This route includes the historical Borgarfjordur valley region. I'll be delighted to share my knowledge of the Icelandic sagas with you. This route is less traveled than most of the other routes I offer such as the Golden circle, South coast and Snaefellsnes peninsula. One benefit of traveling along this route is that you'll run into less people at the attractions. The highlights of this route include two wonderful waterfalls, the most prolific hot spring in Europe, great countryside and setting for one of the most famous Icelandic saga - Egil's saga written in the 13th century. This route can be customized, or included in a multi-day itinerary. Please send me a message. I can easily accommodate up to 23 persons in my largest van. Please send me a message if you have more than 4 persons in your group. Optional activities this day include... 1 - Visit a tubular lava cave 2 - Visit a man-made ice cave 3 - Visit Hvammsvik Spa 4 - Snowmobile tour
Depart Reykjavik the capital city of Iceland and head for the countryside in the west of Iceland. Visit Borgarnes village and the Saga museum for an optional guided tour of either the general history of the settlement of Iceland, or, Egil's saga which is about the first local settlers in the area. You'll travel through some fertile agricultural lands and learn historical tales dating back to the time of the Vikings. On the return trip back to Reykjavik you'll see two fine waterfalls, Reykholt cultural Viking-Age center as well as Europe's most prolific hot spring. We'll travel along the coastline of Whale fjord, one of the finest fjords in Iceland. It was carved out by the Ice-Age glacier some 10. 000 years ago. In Whale fjord you'll see Iceland's only whaling station and various relics dating back to WWII.
