Chania countryside: Roupakias Forest Old Trail

This is a beautiful walk following the old trail connecting the villages of Apokoronas, through the cypress and oak tree forest of Roupakias. In older times the locals resorted to the forest for timber and water while respecting the natural environment and making limited and wise use of its natural resources. At the same time they created trails connecting the villages. These are the trails we will be walking together! Our hike can be 5-7 km depending on your preference with shady stops to rest and just enjoy the scenery, the views of the nearby mountains and the Cretan Sea. It is ideal for travelers who prefer an easier walk mostly in the shade, away from the crowds, with a taste of the local villages. The dense vegetation makes it even more ideal for the hot days.
