Deliana - Mesavlia Gorge Half Day Private Tour from Chania

This easy hike lasts one hour (and less than one for the downhill return) and is ideal to combine Cretan nature and a drive through the villages. Driving through the beautiful landscapes of Kissamos region we will arrive at the quiet village of Deliana and the entrance of the gorge. If we are lucky we will meet the impressive Griffon vultures nesting in the gorge. Not only are they loving parents, but their natural curiosity often makes them fly over the visitors, enabling us to see their impressive, effortless fly of this 1 meter long creatures with a wingspan reaching around 2. 5 meters. As a nature expert I have always been deeply moved when free, wild animals decide to approach and observe us, while we respectfully visit their habitat. Once we get back to the entrance, we can have a picnic in the shade of the plane trees or continue to a local village for a traditional meal.

Starting from Chania, we will head southwest towards Kissamos. It's a beautiful drive (37 km) in one of the most vegetated areas of Crete. Our small but beautiful gorge starts at Deliana. We will walk around 4 km into the gorge, reaching the resting area with the chapel of Agia Paraskevi. Here we can rest an enjoy the natural sounds, before heading back to our starting point. This gorge is easy to walk both ways, while keeping an eye for the vultures that fly above.
