Spetses

A very beautiful and picturesque settlement, Nafplio is located in the southwest side of the Peloponnese and is famous for being the first capital of Modern Greece. The city has actually a very long recorded history, since it's first mentioned in a funerary inscription of the Pharaoh Amenhotep III of Egypt, almost 3300 years ago. Nowadays, it's a popular tourist destination, famous for its narrow alleys and its Venetian castle, called Palamidi that dominates its skyline. It's also associated to some of the darkest moments of Modern Greek history. It was here that the first governor of modern Greece, John Kapodistrias, was assassinated and it was also here where Theodoros Kolokotronis, the leader of the Greeks during the Greek war of independence, was incarcerated. As a friendly and easy going person, who is specialized in modern Greek history, this tour is ideal for me in order to transmit you my knowledge of the region!

Hike the Traditional Town of Poros Half-Day Adventure

Poros old town is marvellous example of an island architecture that captures the most demanding visitor. As a child I was used to play and run round the little alleys through the beautiful white yards of the traditional houses of the island. The smells of basils , wild flowers and little lemon trees have engrave in my memory since childhood. The view from the clock tower of Poros town accompanied me as a teenager when I wanted to escape from everyone. The old town was built like this in order to be hidden from pirates but its wide open for you to discover and enjoy. That's the magical scenery we want to introduce you to. Our route will follow the 3 ridges of the main island (Agioi Anargiri, windmill and clock tower) , visit a traditional courtyard to enjoy a local fresh lemonade and descending to the old city of Poros for lunch in a traditional tavern and visit the small souvenir shops.

On Spetses island, locals usually start their day in "Ntapia" area, having a coffee before going to work.
"Ntapia" or "horseshoe" -this is what locals call it due to its shape!- is the center of Spetses Island.

It used to be a meeting point for lords and captains during the period of the Greek Revolution of 1821.
Today it is the favorite place of locals and travelers.

It is also my favorite area to walk; no matter how many years I have had this habit, I am always enchanted by its simple beauty.

The most amazing thing is how much history can a small place can hide!

The coastal city of Nafplio is one of the most pittoresque and historical places of Greece. It was the first capital of the country and it's associated to some of the darkest moments in modern Greek history, including the assassination of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first head of state of independent Greece. In the area we now find Nafplio, a settlement existed for thousands of years, as early as the 2nd millenium b. c. During its long history the city has been ruled by many different people, including the Venetians, the Ottomans and the Romans, who have all left their traces in its urban landscape and culture. The modern city of Nafplio is a very popular tourist destination, with its traditional narrow streets and monuments, attracting millions of tourists every year.

I am generally a friendly and relaxed person, who loves talking about history, art and culture. Nafplio is definitely one of my favourite destinations!

You have the opportunity to have a full day cruise with a local taxi boat to remote beaches around Poros. All these places that we are going to visit are the places I know since childhood and spend a lot of hours training there for my swim and triathlon races. The water there is crystal clear blue and makes the snorkeling a unique experience. If you are lucky maybe we will meet seals and dolphins passing by our boat. You can swim, snorkeling and have SUP lessons or SUP tour with your personal SUP by a professional coach-guide. The SUP tour-lesson will give you the experience of flying on the water and feel free like a seagull. As our day evolves you will feel more and more connected with nature and the sea. After that, you deserve to taste unique local food as a reward. We will have our lunch in a traditional tavern nearby or as a picnic on a beach (depending on the place we are going to stop).

Every time I had the chance to see Spetses roundly by sea, I would always think that its shape looks like lace(!).
That is because Spetses is full of small magical gulfs!

My favorite part of this place is its big number of hidden beaches and the turquoise sea water.
The island is full of pine trees, even very close to the coasts(!) something very rare for Greece.
Also, a small secret is that beaches that cannot be reached on foot, are the most wonderful!
