I would love to share my love for the island of Crete with you during one of my tours! Crete has been my base and my home for the past 7 years, although I have lived in different places such as Athens, the U.K. and Spain for several years. I’m a licensed tour guide from the National School of Tour Guides in Greece and I try to bring the island’s rich history to life through engaging and immersive experiences. My previous background in Psychology and Counseling, as well as a master’s degree in Social and Solidarity Economy, have shaped my approach – one that values human connection, adaptability and people’s stories. Overview of your Chania tour
Join me into this 3 hour walking tour in the Old Town of Chania to explore all the different neighbourhoods of the city, my favourites stories and the Cretan culture. Through this tour I´m hoping to share some of the cretan traditions and stories of the people that shaped the city. The city of Chania is full of contrasts and hidden gems. Orthodox churches, old-synagogues and old-mosques co-exist and take us back to a time that Chania was one of the most important ports on the maritime routes from the West to the East and a melting-pot of cultures and religions. The city combines the Venetian elegance and robust city walls with the Eastern flavours. I will help you spot the remnants of the ancient city buried below the cobbled streets of the old town that earned the city the denomination of protected archaeological site. So in this tour I will share with you my favourite stories, revealing how daily life unfolded from ancient times to the present and show you what makes the cretan culture unique.
Your Chania tour itinerary
Meet at the Municipal Market or at your hotel/accommodation if it is at the city center. During our tour we will visit: - the Market Area and local artisans workshops. - visit the Orthodox Cathedral and main square where life beats. - Byzantine Walls and Minoan Excavations, in the Kastelli hill. - Venetian port, dockyards and Lighthouse, an imposing monument that reflects the change of powers on the island. - Yali Mosque by the port and the Turkish neighbourhood, the Splantzia. - The Jewish quarter and the picturesque alleys and discover some hidden gems that often go missed. - Etz Hayyim Synagogue (on the outside). - remnants of the Venetian Walls of the city and the Firka Fort, the spot where the Cretan Independence was celebrated. Any aspect of the tour can be customized according to your personal interests.
