I love being in nature and I have always been fascinated by animals, plants and beautiful landscapes. I also feel the need to share the things I love, especially with those who can appreciate them. And Crete has so many natural beauties to discover! My passion for Crete's beautiful nature led me to work as an eco guide in the magical natural areas of Crete and the Aegean for the past ten years. I have always preferred small and flexible private tours in order to share the real taste of the local nature and culture, taking visitors to the same places where I would take my friends. It is very important to combine sharing knowledge and information while having the nice relaxing time to absorb everything that Cretan nature has to offer. This is your holiday after all, and we all know how important this is! MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour and Welfare First Aid courses The tours I offer only include visits to places of natural interest, not historical monuments. Weather restrictions: In case of rain (mainly winter and spring) we will find the closest available date for our tour.

Shorter and less crowded than the famous Samaria gorge, Agia Irini is an easier alternative for those who want to admire the local flora and fauna and the stunning view. Like Samaria, there is also running water and rich vegetation providing shade, which is needed for our hike especially in the summer months. Part of the E4 trail network, this gorge starts south of the Agia Irini village and leads close to the crystal waters of Sougia. Its length is 7. 5 km and its crossing takes three to four hours. For those of us with the observing eye and the love for wildlife, you will find that though more quiet than the busy areas of Chania, this gorge is full of life: birds such as the proud bearded vulture, the colorful and noisy jays, lizards, and even the famous but very cautious Cretan wildgoat are inhabitants of this gorge. It is very important to respect that this is a refuge for wildlife. If you are also interested in visiting the crystal waters of the Libyan Sea and Sougia beach, please contact me!
We start from Chania and head south following the road to Sougia. After driving through the mountains and villages for one hour, we will reach the exit of the village of Agia Irini where we will leave our vehicle. This where our hike starts. It will take us three to four hours depending on our pace to cross the gorge following the well maintained trail. We will have frequent short stops to admire the view, animal tracks, the local flora and aromatic herbs such as wild sage. There are a few passages where we will also need to use our hands to cross, otherwise, it is a relatively easy hike, mostly in the shade. Make sure you wear comfortable clothes, your hiking shoes and that you bring you some water and light snacks so that we can stop for a short picnic in the resting areas. Once we exit the gorge we will return to Chania (1h 20 min drive) or continue to the beautiful beach of Sougia if you have chosen this option.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
We will use a private compact car, ideal for the narrow village roads of Crete plus (plus transfer from and to Sougia, included in price)
