I am a licensed tourist guide (Austria Guide), active in and around Salzburg. I offer walking tours that will make you familiar with Salzburg, with its Art, its History, its Music. . . with Mozart, with Baroque Architecture and, last but not least, with the Sound Of Music. I went through two professions - architecture and stage design - before I decided to become a tour guide ten years ago. This explains why Salzburg is so endearing to me: because of its well preserved historic architecture, and because of its musical events such as the world famous Salzburg Festival. Aside from Austrian culture, acquired during the last fourty years, I am also familiar with French culture, due to ten years spent in Paris. And my native interest for Middle-Eastern culture has left some traces as well. I believe this can be the basis for different guided tours, adapted to your diverse interests and curiousity. Salzburg, as I learned to love it, has a wide range of historic references, which will address the young and the mature, the Eastern as well as the Western guests. Salzburg, as I experience it everyday, shows a specific European civilisation where I love to recognize a touch of Central Europe, a strong Italian influence and an exotic Bavarian kinship. I hope to get you interested in some of these aspects, and I believe I can respond to your various interests. I was trained as a tour guide during a three-semester course at the Institute of Economic Development. This is the only official body granting the licence to practise this regulated profession in Austria. Licensed tour guides carry a distinctive badge showing their legal status. Furthermore, I am part of the Salzburg Guide Service, an association of guides trained in Salzburg, which guarantees an extended knowledge of this city and its province. I am not a driver. I can accompany you in your vehicle or I can arrange for a separate car and driver.

Overview of your Salzburg tour

A walk through the old streets and public squares of a very well preserved historic town. Salzburg has several historic buildings and fountains, mainly from the seventeenth century, as well as one of the most important cathedrals in the region. Its streets and public squares keep alive a unique atmosphere. It has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage. This is also the city where the great musician Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born. Music lovers will certainly want to see the house where he was born, the church where he was baptised. Salzburg is also home to yearly festivals of classical music in Summer and Easter. Visiting at Easter or in summer will make you part of the busy but elegant atmosphere of a festival town. If you happen to visit Salzburg in December, you will see its typical Christmas Markets. Salzburg is also known for the numerous filming locations shown seen in "The Sound Of Music", which was shot here in 1964. Two Historic cafés are worth seeing.

What a magical day. Salzburg is one of my favorite cities rich in history and culture. Maroine brought the city to life for me. He was able to provide the stories and details of the city that made the tour all the more interesting. I was amazed by his knowledge and expertise. I definitely recommend this tour of Salzburg.

We heartily recommend Maroine, who gave us a wonderful tour of Salzburg. He was extremely friendly, interesting, and informed, as well as eager to accommodate our specific interests. We feel we came away with an excellent overview of the history of Salzburg and its main tourist destinations, and it increased our appreciation of the city tenfold. What an enjoyable morning!

Highly recommend! We had the best tour with Maroine! Of course he’s knowledgeable , but his love of Austrian and world history is contagious. He’s fun to be with, and we learned so many fun facts we never would have known if we had just wandered on our own. Maroine is flexible and accommodated our “pop-up” wishes with grace and ease. We felt lucky to have had this time with him and came away even more in love with Salzburg!

Maroine was a fabulous guide and we had a delightful time with him! He brought us to the main Salzburg highlights, and we enjoyed his sense of humor while he explained some of the “backstories” of several sights. The tour was the perfect length with the right amount of walking, and we would highly recommend Maroine and this tour to anyone wanting a nice overview of Salzburg.

We had a great tour of Salzburg with Maroine who has a profound knowledge of Salzburg and its history. Marione is a class act and worked with us to time and end our tour at the cathedral so that we could attend the midday organ concert. Marione helped us to experience many treasures of Salzburg that we would have missed without his expertise and guidance.

Your Salzburg tour itinerary

The walking tour takes you to the Mirabell garden - well known to those familiar with "The Sound Of Music" movie and the "do-re-mi" song - then across the pedestrian bridge over the river Salzach to the main historic street with its old shop signs. You will walk past Mozart's Birthplace and through picturesque passageways, past 2 historic cafés. Further, you will see 5 public squares laid out 400 years ago in the Italian style. Numerous baroque monuments will be on your way, among which the cathedral particularly stands out; it can be visited when religious services are not taking place (admission= 5 EURO per person). You can also have a stunning view of the medieval fortress from one of the public squares, a favourite snapshot among visitors. NOTE: If you have a specific itinerary in mind send me a message and I'll customize the tour for you. And if you would like to use a taxi on some sections of this mainly walking tour, please send me a message so I can customize a tour for you.
