Full day tour of Eagle's Nest and Berchtesgaden Bavarian Mountains - licensed Austria guide

DD and Marcus were both extremely knowledgeable about the history of Salzburg. Both were extremely pleasant - the tour was a highlight of the trip.

After our wonderful Sound of Music tour with Dietmar, my wife and I spent a second day with him exploring Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest, the Obersalzberg, and the surrounding Bavarian countryside. As exceptional as our first tour had been, this experience was on an entirely different level. Dietmar’s connection to this area and its history is remarkable. His grandfather actually helped build the Eagle’s Nest, and Dietmar himself has been exploring and studying the site since the 1970s. This isn’t history he simply learned in order to become a tour guide—it is history he has been surrounded by for much of his life. That became apparent throughout the day. Dietmar showed us hidden entrances, rooms, ruins, remnants of structures, and other fascinating details that we never would have known existed. He knows where things once stood, what remains today, and how the entire area looked and functioned during that period. Again and again, we found ourselves wondering how anyone who had not grown up here and spent decades exploring these mountains could possibly know some of the things he showed us. That is what makes a tour with Dietmar so different. You aren’t simply being taken to the Eagle’s Nest and shown the usual sights. You are exploring the area with someone who has a personal connection to its history and has spent more than 50 years walking these mountains, discovering what remains, and learning their stories. Dietmar also has a wonderful way of bringing history to life. He is incredibly knowledgeable without ever making the experience feel like a history lecture. Because it was just my wife and me, we could ask questions, explore things that interested us, and spend time in places that would be impossible on a large organized tour. By this point, Dietmar had also become much more than our guide. After spending two extraordinary days together, my wife and I genuinely consider him a friend, which made the experience even more special. If you have a serious interest in the history of the Eagle’s Nest and the Obersalzberg, I cannot imagine a more fascinating way to experience it. Dietmar showed us a side of this area that most visitors will never know exists. Thank you again, Dietmar. You didn’t just show us the Eagle’s Nest—you gave us an extraordinary glimpse into its history that we will never forget.

Didi did an amazing tour of the Eagle's Nest! We felt like we learned SO much from him with an insider's perspective of the Eagle's Nest from someone who grew up in the area. His grandfather also worked up there. The scenery was also breathtaking. We were able to see the remains of the leaders homes, buildings, unparalleled history lessons, in a matter of fact way that gives us the honest truth from someone who has lived it, which we really appreciate it! We WILL be recommending Didi to our friends and family, and be back soon with our husbands (this was a girls trip). Thanks for letting us shop too, Didi, I know it wasn't your favorite thing:) haha. The scenery WAS stunning and the information on the mountain, lake, and national parks in addition to WWII were also very interesting! Dietmar is an awesome guide and extremely knowledgeable, his knowledge and passion for history is contagious. He was early for pickup and extremely hospitable. It was a perfect day.
