There you have the choice between three attractions: the Ice Caves, the Five Fingers viewing platform, both on Mount Dachstein (tallest mountain of the area) or the Salt Mines above Hallstatt. The Ice Caves can be visited only on a guided tour. It is a fascinating journey into the world of ice. The Five Fingers viewing platform gives you a breathtaking view across the lake and the whole area. Both locations on Mount Dachstein can be only reached by cable car. The salt mines tour is a very interesting and also fun tour through the oldest salt mines in the world. After finishing one of these excursions you will have plenty of time in Hallstatt. From your starting point in the city of Salzburg this tour goes straight out to the Salzkammergut area, also known as the Lakes district, east of Salzburg. Via Lake Fuschl we drive to the charming, little town of St. Gilgen at Lake Wolfgang, where we have a short break. Then our way leads us through the imperial City of Bad Ischl and finally to the lake and the town of Hallstatt, the heart of the lakes district and declared to a UNESCO Wold Heritage Site. On your arrival in Hallstatt you decide, whether you like to visit the Ice Caves, the Five Fingers viewing platform or the Salt Mines. After finishing one of these excursions you still have plenty of time in the town of Hallstatt. From there our route leads to Lake Gosau, from where you can see the mighty Dachstein Glacier. Via Abtenau and the Lammer Valley we drive back to the city of Salzburg.
