Scenic tour from Salzburg to Chiemsee to visit Ludwig II. palace on an island in the 'bavarian sea'. Ferry boat to and from island, walk through wildlife refuge to join app. half hour guided tour through the palace. Stop for refreshments, take the ferry back and proceed to Munich on the Autobahn. A great way to travel from A to B without stress and sightseeing on the way.
Leaving Salzburg on the highway to Munich we travel through the Rupertigau which was for centuries part of Salzburg. It will take us about one hour to catch a ferry to visit one of the famous buildings of Ludwig II of Bavaria - Herrenchiemsee. This site is located on one of the few natural islands in this big lake in Bavaria, also called 'the Bavarian sea'. On the island you walk through a dense forest which is home to some rare species of wildlife to join a guided tour through a replica of Versailles, a place which was admired by Ludwig according to being a fan of Louis XIV. After the english tour which lasts about thirty minutes, you may get a bite to eat at the restaurant on the island next to the old palace and take the ferry back; or we jump to the next island called Frauenchiemsee with the eldst nunnery in Germany and find some refreshments there. The regular operating ferries take us back to the mainland where we continue our trip to your destination.
