I'm Sumiko who would like to your Private Guide in Japan!

I was born and brought up in Yamanashi -next to Tokyo, having viewed Mt. Fuji every day until the age of 18 and moved to Tokyo for the study in college.

After I worked at the central bank of Japan for about ten years, I moved to Pittsburgh, USA from 1998 to 2000 because of my husband's work. During that period, I attended the English classes for English learners at the University of Pittsburgh or a community college, also had a son (he used to tell the difference between "L" and "R" sound when in the USA, not anymore. ) I have also a daughter who was born in Japan!

Currently, I also tutor English for kids at a private school twice a week which starts after regular schools. So children are also welcome!

I have guided many foreign tourists for the past several years. I had been a volunteer guide since 2011 and got the national license of the certified guide in 2016. So I am quite familiar with touristy places as well as some areas only locals know.

Through my study or experiences as a tour guide, I rediscovered how Japan is traditional and new, complicated and simplified, friendly and modest. I hope to help you in understanding this interesting country with utmost "OMOTENASHI" or Japanese way of hospitality.

Fukagawa is located east side of Tokyo and well known as one of the typical old downtown areas. The people there are very proud of this town, so they are eager to introduce everything to visitors!

You may feel something of Japan's good old days during this tour. We will visit Fukagawa Fodoudou (a temple), Tomioka Hachimangu (a shrine), Kiyosumi Gardens (a Japanese garden), Edo Fukagawa museum, and some other attractive places. You can also enjoy a famous local food "Fukagawa meshi", rice mixed with cooked clams if you wish. At the temple, you can observe the fire ritual and can join the special blessing around the end of the service.

Tokyo three days for Barry family-3

This six-hour tour offers a rich blend of Tokyo’s traditional and modern attractions. Starting at Tsukiji Market, you’ll explore lively stalls filled with fresh seafood and unique Japanese ingredients. Enjoy the freshest fish that Tsukiji is known for.

Next, you’ll head to the historic Sensoji Temple in Asakusa. Begin at the iconic Kaminarimon Gate and walk along Nakamise Street, a vibrant shopping street filled with traditional crafts and snacks. The tour then takes you to a traditional tea ceremony in the Asakusa area. You’ll learn the art of tea preparation, observing the refined etiquette and rituals of the ceremony. While sipping matcha and enjoying delicate Japanese sweets (wagashi), you’ll immerse yourself in the deeper aspects of Japanese culture.

 Starting from your hotel, you’ll visit the tranquil Meiji Jingu Shrine, a peaceful spiritual retreat in the heart of the city.  Please don't forget to explore the inner Garden of Meiji shrine.
From there, you’ll explore the lively streets of Harajuku, famous for its quirky fashion and youth culture, before moving on to Omotesando, an elegant avenue lined with luxury boutiques and stunning modern architecture.
