An experience through the old town by night, with Dinner and Live Fado Music - World's Intangible Cultural Heritage
Overview of your Lisbon tour
Lisbon's oldest neighborhoods are very different day and night. . . And there is a particular kind of Live Music bars/restaurants, within the old town limits, where you can listen and feel the Fado Music! At night, old Fados are played and new Fados are born in these old streets of Lisbon. A tradition that it's still alive and it's not just a reproduction of old songs. Fado, the Portuguese most traditional music genre, its World's Intangible Cultural Heritage according to UNESCO and still very important on the daily routines of Lisbon. Mouraria and Alfama, made of small streets, alleys and staircases, offer a very different nightlife. We will get to know some of these traditional places that reveal part of Lisbon's identity and cultural heritage through this unique music style. In June this tour might not be available in some dates due to the Santo António festivities.

Adriano is a great guide especially if you are staying in the old part of Lisbon. Great tour towards the beginning of your trip. This Fado music experience is great for beginners and fado music lovers. He is super flexible with his tours and can really show you the city.

Outstanding Fado music tour with a wonderful very knowledgeable guide that is very informed about Fado music ! We walked around the local Fado museum area before dinner and listening to authentic Fado music at one of the oldest venues in Lisbon. The amazing guide made all the arrangements for dinner and picked the venue . Highly recommend !

This was a fantastic tour. We would give it 6 stars if we could. Adriano is a fountain of information about Fado, Alfama and Mouraria. You can tell he is really enjoys his tour guiding and especially Fado. The restaurant he took us to, Fama D’Alfama, had fantastic, dynamic artists including established Fado stars and fresh new talent and music lasting to after midnight. His explanations of each Fado song during the performances really enhanced our enjoyment of Fado. Adriano suggested a hidden craft store to visit and guided us not only through the June 1st Alfama celebrations but back to our hotel in Alfama using streets we didn’t know existed. He even contacted us after the tour with more information about Fado artists (old & new), Fado history and Portuguese guitar. Highly recommended!

Adriano has a passion for not only Fado music but also the neighborhoods he guides you through on your way to an authentic Fado music evening. We appreciated the way he prepared us for our special evening with a historical review of the portions of the city that gave rise to the musicians, their lifestyle, the politics surrounding the surge in popularity of Fado and what to expect once in the venue. He then took the time between sets to translate the words and provide cultural context. A superb night in Old Lisbon with a gifted guide!
Your Lisbon tour itinerary
We will start walking through Mouraria neighborhood. We will walk through Rua do Capelão, Largo da Severa and we will see - from the small streets - the houses where important Fado references lived. Fado is in the air. . . Now time to walk up the hill and then we will get to Alfama. We will stop at Portas do Sol viewpoint to see the neighborhood from above and the Tejo river. Walking down, we will have the chance to learn a lot about different moments of the History of the city. Keep in mind that we will have stairs in our way through some of the oldest and narrow streets of the city. After we get into the Fado Restaurant-Bar it's time to seat down, order food, wine and. . . enjoy the live music! Aditional Notes: - Walking though the old streets and uneven pavement requires comfortable shoes. - The booking confirmation for this tour depends on the Restaurant reservation. - About the Fado show: there are several breakes but it's a show with different singers through the night.
