Go West and see Iceland's best with a private local guide
West of Iceland has it all. A natural pool, glacier, waterfalls, lava, and volcanoes. Also charming fishing villages and breathtaking views all around the Snæfellsnes peninsula.
In this tour, we spend the day stopping at some of the areas most beautiful places. Some of them are quite famous, such as Snæfellsjökull National Park with Djúpalónssandur, Hellnar, Arnarstapi and Gerðuberg. Many of my favorite places are however not famous at all or crowded with people but nevertheless just as breathtaking and special.
In this tour, we have the flexibility to tailor the experience to your needs and wishes. Of course, we need to take into account powerful factors as weather and seasons but we are quite used to work around that. This will be an adventure to remember. We can take the time we need to live the moment of a beautiful scenery and get the perfect picture we wanted.
The West is, in fact, my home area. I would love to show you around in this beutiful part of Iceland.
I like to start this tour rather early. We start by driving north to Borgarnes, and there the adventure begins. Soon you will see young lava and volcano craters, cinder cones and basalt columns. We might drop by at a small natural bath or drive on to see some wonderful waterfalls.
We look carefully at the weather forecast because the Snæfellsnes peninsula can be done in different ways and we want to enjoy the best weather possible during the day. This means we are not doing the tour, in the same way, every time. In fact, I like to adjust it to our guest's needs every time. That is a challenge but makes the tour much more personal and special - also to me.
Snæfellsnes is not only the area of a glacier, volcano, waterfalls, and breathtaking beaches. It is also known for great sagas and stories of Vikings, trolls, outlaws, berserks, mass murderers and godless people. I might tell you about Bárður Snæfellsás, Grettir the strong and some other stories along the way.
Meeting Point + Tour Duration
Meeting Point Options: Rail or Bus Station, Cruise Ship Port, Airport, Hotel, Address or Intersection, Monument/Building
Duration: 10 hours
This is a full day tour. It is best not to book an early dinner table in Reykjavik for you might want to stay a bit longer in few places. You don't want to be stressed out on the way home. For me, it is all the same if the tour is 9 or 11 hours. The whole day is reserved for you anyway.
I drive a 2012 Land Rover Discovery 4 with nice leather seats for six passengers.
Estimated Local Cash Needed
6000 Icelandic krona - 6000 Icelandic krona - It is a long day and we will be stopping at road shops for a coffee and some nice restaurant to eat. In this part of Iceland, you get the freshest fish. If that is your favorite dish we will have some really nice choices for lunch.
I am not qualified as a glacier guide and will there for hire such services upon a request.

We spent 3 days with Dofri and each was better than the last. He is knowledgeable, personable, and flexible and knows the area like no one else. He will tailor your tour experience to your interests and ability level and take you to places most tourists will never see. He ended our tour with a picnic by a waterfall, complete with a little Icelandic brandy! I highly recommend Dofri. He's the kind of fellow you would like to travel with even if he weren't a tour guide.
