The Rambla was in origin a small stream flowing just outside the city walls. In the 16th century convents, hospitals and a university were built all along the river. In the 19th century, the city wall was demolished, and buildings were erected along the now dried up river. Even though it is a continuous street, the Rambla consists of five 'Ramblas. ' That's why you will sometimes read La Rambla (in singular) or Les Rambles (in plural). Let's get into its magic !!!
