Overview of your London tour
Chartwell was Sir Winston Churchill's country house where he and his wife Clementine brought up their family in the beautiful Kent countryside. Today the house is still much as it was when the family lived here - pictures, books and personal mementos evoking the career and wide-ranging interests of this influential family providing an insight into the private life of the great man. The visit includes an exhibition about Churchill himself, his war years and how he relaxed at Chartwell plus his studio - the largest single collection of Churchill's paintings. Surrounding the grounds are fabulous gardens designed by Sir Winston Churchill nestling in the larger Chartwell estate with superb views over the Weald of Kent.
Your London tour itinerary
You will be met at Dover Cruise Terminal (or in London) by Dawn and her chauffeur to be driven to Chartwell just 1. 5 hours away deep into the Kent countryside. As the tour is personalised to your wishes, we will spend as long as you like here and depending on your timeframe, there are other sites we can visit on the return journey to Dover and your cruise ship, or to London. One suggestion is we travel back to Dover to explore Dover Castle where Churchill oversaw the commanding of Operation Dynamo from within the White Cliffs themselves. If you are returning to London, other places to visit en route (by prior arrangement) are Hever Castle, Ightham Mote or Eltham Palace amongst others.
