Hi, my name is Nigel. I am a former History teacher and have been a tour guide in the UK for over 10 years. I believe tour guiding is about sharing knowledge, experiences and stories and having lots of fun along the way! I studied British and American History and Politics at university and have a passion for the history and culture of both countries. I have been very fortunate to have travelled to over 80 countries and have met some remarkable people and some amazing tour guides. I recently worked with the one and only Rick Steves, advising him on his London Travelogue and the next edition of his London Guide Book. I really enjoy creating opportunities to explore the amazing places in London and the South of England and meeting and speaking with locals and gaining an insight into their way of life. London has been my home for the past 30 years and I have a real passion for this incredible global city. There is so much to experience on foot and by using the excellent public transport system. If you are nervous about using the Tube (the subway) or the buses, fear not, I will help you navigate your way to the myriad of wonderful places that London has to offer. If the capital city is your focus, we can tour around the historic sights linked to the British Royal Family in Westminster, explore the ancient City of London with its Roman origins, hear stories of its colourful history and enjoy its spectacular architecture. You can experience the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, the Houses Of Parliament, Buckingham and Kensington Palaces, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, St Paul's Cathedral, The Southbank, the West End and the East End. My aim is to design a unique, customised tour for you and your fellow travellers. We will tour at a pace to suit you and I am always happy to customise tours and make adjustments to ensure you have a wonderful time on vacation. Outside the capital city, England has so many great places to visit. It's a wonderful country to be a guide as there is so much history and life on the streets of every town and village. There are also a wide range of stunning places just a short journey from Central London. I run single Day Tours to Royal Windsor and Hampton Court using professional drivers or, if preferred, local trains. If you have an interest in World War II, the Churchill War Rooms, the RAC museum at Hendon, the Battle of Britain Bunker in Uxbridge and Fighter Command HQ are also well worth a visit and within easy reach of central London. For those wanting to experience London's range of gastronomic delights, I offer walking tours to some of London's Historic Pubs and Borough Market with its huge range of international street food. I am really looking forward to meeting you and sharing the many rich experiences that this country can offer. Hope we can make this happen soon! Here are my formal qualifications:- - Bachelor of Arts Degree Joint Honours in History and American Studies (Keele University) - Certificate in Education (Teaching Degree, Keele University) : History and Physical Education I have Public Liability Insurance. There are a small number of historic sites where I am not licensed to guide however there are official "live" guides or audio guides available at the this sites.

Overview of your London tour

Pick up by a professional driver London we travel for around 80 minutes to visit Sir Winston Churchill's family home. Chartwell is a special place and I never tire of visiting. It is where Churchill felt most at home. "A day away from Chartwell is a day wasted" was how he once described this place. He raised his family there and it is very much as it was when he lived there. There are many books, artifacts and personal mementos around and they all reflect the huge range of interests of Churchill himself and his family. They provide a real insight into his mind. The house also has an exhibition on Churchill and his life during and after the Second World War. His studio contains many of his paintings and is the largest collection of his work anywhere. The gardens and the estate are spectacular and well worth exploring with great views over the Weald of Kent. The tour can be customized and could include a visit to the nearby village of Westerham where General Wolfe's house can be found.

Nigel was fantastic — knowledgeable, experienced, friendly, and had lots of great suggestions to help customize our experience. We recommend him highly! Chartwell was absolutely amazing — beautiful scenery, historic and completely unique. We could not have had a better day!

Nigel is the best TBL guide I have ever met, and I have had a positive experience with every one of them. He was friendly, knowledgeable, involved and considerate. He taught us things about England we did not know. One member of our group had twisted his knee a couple days before, and he was most considerate. Everyone had a great time, and the disability neither slowed down the group nor prevents the one hurt person from being involved due to his attention. Highly recommended!

This was a great tour, and we were grateful for the thoughtfulness and the effort of our guide. That only is a tour of Chartwell exceptional and well-informed, but we learned a great deal about the surrounding countryside. The selection of where we went to lunch was also thoughtful and locally inspired. Brilliant tour that we would recommend.

Nigel was very knowledgeable, professional and thoughtful. My husband has mobility and hearing issues and he could not have been more considerate and helpful. We had a wonderful day and would book another tour with Nigel at any time.

Nigel was informative and accommodating. We had a great time with him and I already passed his name onto a friend.
