This is a trip in time to discover romans and its culture: more than 2200 years ago Romans founded the first roman city in the Iberian Peninsula (today Spain and Portugal). They called this city: "Tarraco". Tarraco became the most magnificent city out of the Italian Peninsula, even the emperor moved the capital from Rome to Tarraco for a couple of years because of a Civil War in Rome. If Tarraco was so gorgeous, you can imagine how many evidences of the Roman culture they left and we can visit In our journey from Barcelona we will stop at the Roman stone quarry, to see how many tons of stone they used to build such a big city; and at the Roman Aqueduct (in a favorable conservation status) Once in town we will visit the Roman walls, the Forum Provinciales, the Roman Circus, the Amphitheatre, the museum and the Gothic Cathedral To complete our tour we can't miss the Roman Arch of Triumph, which is located out of town Optional: we can stop for lunch and walk around Sitges, a lovely coastal town
This is a great tour for those who have been lucky to have previously visited Barcelona and want to explore something new. Francesc is very knowledgeable about the Roman presence in Tarragona and offers a well organized, exciting and fun experience that will give you memories for a lifetime.
This was my second day of touring with Francesc, I am very happy I booked two days with him. This is a very interesting tour, I learned so much about very early Spain history. We saw some amazing ancient sites both inside and outside Tarragona; to be able to see them is a special experience. Francesc shares so many interesting things you would likely miss on your own. What an interesting tour! Tarragona is a wealth of Roman history and archeology. Francesc is very knowledgeable and very personable. The town is about an hour outside of Barcelona and he has a car that comfortably seats 4 guests. We visited several Roman ruins both on the way to Tarragona and within the city. We then went to lunch at one of Francesc's favorite restaurants nearby. It was one of the best meals we had all week. We highly recommend this tour and Francesc as a guide.
Francesc was the most excellent and accomodating guide. He was very knowledgeable about the history and gave us interesting information throughout the day. We saw so many Roman ruins and he told us how the city was blended into them. The start of the tour showed us the quarry where the stones for the walls came from. We felt very special to see places that we felt many others may not have the opportunity! He also gave us great suggestions for dinner and chocolate places!! Thank you Francesc!
This is a most worthwhile tour and Francesc is a terrific guide. We really enjoyed learning from him and highly recommend this trip outside of the city. The Roman ruins were a highlight of our Barcelona vacation. We also enjoyed a relaxing stop at an interesting café. The kindness and care that Francesc took to ensure that my husband with limited mobility had an enjoyable day was very much appreciated. Also, the drop-off at a Barcelona beach restaurant worked out great! Thank you Francesc!

Note: The vehicle is offered free of charge in order to allow us to get to the places of the tour. A minibus is necessary if you are more than 7 travelers.
