Gustav Vigeland is Norway's greatest sculptor and most people will visit his sculpture park when in Oslo. In addition to that, this tour includes an entrance to the Vigeland Museum, where we'll get up close and see the giant plaster models for his sculptures. This will allow us to see details that can't be seen in the park. We'll also walk around the grounds of the Royal Palace to see three sculpture installations done by Vigeland. The tour will start downtown and we'll see the major sights there, such as Parliament and City Hall. The walk from downtown to the Vigeland Park and Museum is about 30 minutes. On the way there, we will walk past the Nobel Peace Prize Institute and see a bust of Alfred Nobel done by Vigeland (he also did the Nobel Peace Prize medallion). We'll take a different route back, walking through the posh Oslo west area. It is also possible to take the tram back from the Vigeland Park.
In a leisurely 4-hour walking tour, we'll see: -Parliament -Oslo City Hall -Karl Johansgate, Oslo's main street -Royal Palace grounds to see some Vigeland sculptures there. -The Vigleland Musuem, with huge, original plaster models for most of the sculptures in the park and other works done by Vigeland, including erotic early works influenced by Rodin and busts of many famous Norwegian. (Please note, the museum is closed on Mondays. We can substitute either a visit to the Oslo Peace Prize center or an inside tour of the City Hall on that day) - TheVigeland Sculpture Park, the largest sculpture park done by one man in the world. Here we'll see the 46-foot-tall monolith with 121 figures carved in granite, the 36 figure groups depicting all aspects of life, the huge fountain surrounded by 60 bronze reliefs and the bridge with 58 bronzes that includes Sinnataggen, (Angry Boy). -The Frogner District, Oslo's posh west side. It's possible to take public transportation back from the Frogner Park, if so desired.

This is a walking tour, but it is possible to take public transportation to and from the Vigeland Park and Museum to cut down on the amount of walking.
