Hi I'm Andrew. I've been guiding in Norway for over 30 years and have been an authorized Oslo guide since 2006. Guiding is in my blood and the most enjoyable work I have done. I love walking around Oslo in my free time and feel privileged to be able to show people what I believe to be the greatest city to live in (I've been to over 75 countries and haven't found a better place). There's something in this city for everyone; world class art, significant historical sites and great nature within walking distance of downtown. I pride myself on being able to relate to and meet the interests of a wide variety of people and will happily customize your tour to meet your needs. A few words about my background. I grew up in the US and first visited Norway when hitchhiking around Europe when I was 19. Enchanted with the country, I came back to study at the University of Oslo, where I got my undergraduate degree. After graduate school in the US, I returned to Norway and taught at the law school here for over 20 years. I now have spent the majority of my adult years in Oslo and am a Norwegian citizen. If you have access to iFit, you can see 3 Oslo cultural walking tours I did for them. Authorized Oslo guide since 2006 Guide in Norway and Scandinavia since 1986 Lectured at the University of Oslo Law School for over 20 years I'm an authorized guide and can guide in all museums, except for the Munch Museum where some restrictions may apply. I would not be able to be your driver in Oslo, but I could arrange for a limo or taxi for part or all of your tour.

Overview of your Oslo tour

This walking tour will show you the major sights in Oslo's compact downtown and harbor area. We'll walk up Oslo's main parade street, Karl Johansgate, and see the Oslo Cathedral, the Norwegian Parliament and the Royal Palace. Just off of Karl Johansgate is the Oslo City Hall, where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded and the National Theater where Henrik Ibsen's plays are still produced. We'll walk along Oslo's central harbor area which has been a major urban renewal success. We'll see old dockyard that have been converted into a trendy public area. The crown jewel of the new harbor area is the Oslo Opera House from 2008. We'll walk up its Carrara marble clad sloping roof, which looks like a glacier sliding into the Oslo Fjord. We'll enter into old Christiania from the 1600's and walk by the Akershus Fortress - the oldest part dates back to 1299 (the Swedes attacked it numerous times without success). The length of the walk can vary from about 5-8 kilometers.

Andrew provided a wonderful tour of Oslo! He incorporated the desires of six travelers to create a magical day in Oslo. This included a special walk to the Presidential Palace on the day the King died. Andrew met us at our hotel and began the day together with a history of Norway followed by a high speed tram to the areas of interest which accommodated the varying walking capacity for each of us. He was endlessly patient, information and with a delightful sense of humor. Highly recommend!

Your Oslo tour itinerary

This tour can start and end from any downtown hotel, cruise ship terminal or central point.
