My name is Judith and I am an Authorized Oslo Guide who would like to show you Norway's capital! I really enjoy showing visitors not only Oslo's highlights - those must sees - but the "off the beaten path" sights as well. I can arrange themed walking tours, tours using public transportation, shore excursions, and also tours which provide private transportation. As an educator for many years in Norway, all of my tours can be personalized to meet any special interests you may have. My background is both American and Norwegian. I came to Norway in the 1970s looking for my roots, which I found, and I fell in love with this country. In 1985, I settled here with my family. Oslo is an exciting, dynamic capital city which I know well but I have also travelled to all corners of this little country - on land and by sea! I am particularly interested in showing Norwegian-Americans the city of Oslo and helping those visitors learn more about the culture and history of not only the capital but of Norway, too. My personal experience growing up as a Norwegian-American, will enable me to help customize tours to those of you wanting to learn more about your heritage. My other tours focus on topics which I am particularly interested in which includes World War II - The Occupation Years and also Jewish History in Norway. Take a look at my tours and see what interests you! Remember that all tours can be personalized. After 25 years of teaching at the high school/upper secondary level in and around Oslo, I am now a full-time tour guide. Therefore, I look forward to showing you Norway's capital city any time of the year. Contact me about dates and tours so that I may help you plan and experience the perfect visit to Oslo or surrounding areas! My calendar is updated regularly but please contact me about your travel dates if you have any questions. - A very proud holder of Oslo's Tourist Guide Authorization - Teacher for 25 years at the high school/upper secondary level - Travel coordinator for student history trips within Europe focusing on World War II - B.Sc. Cornell University - College of Agriculture & Life Science - Certified International Childbirth Educator I am not a professional driver but if you prefer to have a tour with a private car and driver, please contact me about this option.

During the Second World War (1940-45), Norway was occupied by Nazi Germany. Join me in 2026 as we stroll through central Oslo to learn more about the many people and key events when Norway was not only occupied but lost its democracy. These events would shape the Norway you see today. Perhaps you have watched the series Atlantic Crossing? Then, you will particularly enjoy this walk! There are several Norwegian movies made in recent years which show how pivotal time period this was for Norway. In 1940, King Haakon VII would say "No!" to the occupying forces. President Franklin D. Roosevelt said in 1942, "Look to Norway"! Learn about some of those who risked their lives fighting tyranny and the fates of many of our citizens during those years. This walk will end in Alfred Nobel's footsteps near the harbour at the Nobel Peace Center. You will see many of Oslo's highlights and learn about Oslo during its times of war and peace.
We will visit the following places but not necessarily in this order: - *Oslo City Hall (inside if not closed due to a civic function) - Vika Terrace - Akershus Fortress - WWII memorials, stories, and more - The Royal Palace grounds - role of the Norwegian Royal Family during WWII - Karl Johan gate (main pedestrian street), with its historical buildings and areas - Norwegian Resistance groups - key figures and events - University Square - the fate of Norway's Jewish population *Visiting the Museum of Norwegian Resistance if the City Hall is closed on tour day. For anyone who would like to extend this tour and have it customized, I highly recommend visiting "Roseslottet" (The Rose Castle). We need one extra hour to travel by public transportation and to visit this very special outdoor art installation at Frognerseter. It is well worth the time if you are interested in this topic! The ride is lovely, the view is terrific, and its message is clear.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
This is a walking tour at a very comfortable pace. We will rest our feet as needed, of course.
