My tours are about bringing you into up-close and personal contact with all that makes the Yucatan so special. I try to avoid the cookie-cutter itineraries, usual-suspect attractions and anything - yawn - cliché. The unusual, the heart-wrenching, the melancholy and the joyful. Spontaneity and serendipity are our travel companions. I love to create memorable outings that are win-win-win. For you, for the people we meet, and yes, for me also! A Canadian Yucatecan (my Yucatecan wife and two daughters say I'm more Yucatecan than they are) who has lived in the Yucatan for almost 40 years. I am passionate about the area's colonial history, its' people, language and food. It is my special talent to act as the bridge between my guests from abroad and locals; from talented artisans to lovely ladies that will teach you how to properly make a corn tortilla by hand to enjoying a home-cooked meal in a small village. The experience will be one you won't soon forget. Thirty-plus-year Resident of the Yucatan Published Author - Yucatecan Spanish Dictionary BCIT Hotel Mgmt Program Serial Entrepreneur Tours at archaeological sites will be done by a professional guide hired on site for that purpose. A driver with a federal tourism drivers license will accompany us in a vehicle that has been properly plated for tourism as per local law.

You might be familiar with Yucatecan food - or not. No matter. In this fun class with a lovely local lady in a small village about 45 minutes from Merida, you can choose from making classic corn tortilla panuchos and salbutes over a traditional Mayan cooking fire, or something more complicated like cochinita or pollo pibil or even relleno negro. All ingredients are real, local and authentic. No fancy cooking utensils, ingredients or procedures. It's as real as it can get and you will love it. Perfect for all ages as everyone gets into the act and gets their hands messy. Squishing dough, mixing ground meat, peeling eggs, tending to the fire, chopping, stirring and pouring, there is plenty to do. This is not just sitting around watching; no, this is real cooking. In addition we can stop at a former plantation (hacienda) for a photo op and leg stretch and can also program a cenote visit for a swim after your cooking and eating are done (optional).
Please note that this is a private tour just for you and your group. - The starting time of 8:00 AM is just a suggestion and can be moved to start a little later if you enjoy your beauty sleep or have had a late night the day before. The earlier the better as it is cooler and we can enjoy the visit to the market to buy ingredients. - Pick up at Merida location. - A 30 minute drive and a brief stop at a former plantation to take some photos, stretch legs. - Then a short 20 minutes or so to our destination. - We'll be shopping, cooking, socializing and eating for 2-3 hours depending on how much fun we are having and then head back to Merida and your hotel or rental. - If you have chosen the optional cenote stop, then we should plan on another hour or so for that.
