My tours are about bringing you into up-close and personal contact with all that makes the Yucatan so special. I try to avoid the cookie-cutter itineraries, usual-suspect attractions and anything - yawn - cliché. The unusual, the heart-wrenching, the melancholy and the joyful. Spontaneity and serendipity are our travel companions. I love to create memorable outings that are win-win-win. For you, for the people we meet, and yes, for me also! A Canadian Yucatecan (my Yucatecan wife and two daughters say I'm more Yucatecan than they are) who has lived in the Yucatan for almost 40 years. I am passionate about the area's colonial history, its' people, language and food. It is my special talent to act as the bridge between my guests from abroad and locals; from talented artisans to lovely ladies that will teach you how to properly make a corn tortilla by hand to enjoying a home-cooked meal in a small village. The experience will be one you won't soon forget. Thirty-plus-year Resident of the Yucatan Published Author - Yucatecan Spanish Dictionary BCIT Hotel Mgmt Program Serial Entrepreneur Tours at archaeological sites will be done by a professional guide hired on site for that purpose. A driver with a federal tourism drivers license will accompany us in a vehicle that has been properly plated for tourism as per local law.

This is an adventurous tour designed for those who want to experience something completely different, go very off the grid and feel like they are 19th century explorers coming upon a Mayan city lost in the forest! Great for those who enjoy hiking, climbing, crawling (occasionally) and yes, sweating a little.
Pickup in Merida at your accommodation in a comfortable vehicle stocked with a cooler with plenty of ice, drinks and face towels to refresh after your exertions. Snacks and energy bars available on request as well. We stop after a 30 -40 minutes drive, at a small market in a town on the way for fresh fruit or breakfast. Once we have arrived - a another hour's drive - at our destination we board a rough pickup and make our way 9 kilometers into the Yucatecan forest to begin our trek with a local guide and his trusty machete. After two hours or so of trekking and climbing through the remains of an ancient Mayan site, we return to the truck for drinks and windodown before heading to the town of Santa Elena, deep in the Puuc region. Here, we visit a local restaurant and have a meal and take a dip in a refreshing clear swimming pool. After lunch and swim, we board our vehicle and head back to Merida.
