Hello everyone, my name's Paolo and I'm an archaeologist and a licensed tour guide. I was born in Forlì, a small picturesque city located in Northern Italy - not far from Bologna. And it was there, in my childhood, where I took my first steps in the world of archaeology, going with my friends in search of fossils and other ancient objects. I graduated at the University of Bologna obtaining a degree in Cultural Heritage, then I completed the postgraduate school in Classical Archaeology at the University of Padua, then I moved to Rome. I never quit studying and improving my knowledge as a professional archaeologist working on field and research so I also a got a Phd in Classical Archaeology at the Ludwig Maximilians Universität of Munich (Germany), wonderfull experience! To follow my passion and my job I have lived in several cities in Italy and Greece, such as Rome and Pompeii. Since 2009 I have enjoyed living and working in Castellammare di Stabia too, a quaint maritime town near Pompeii - where you could say I have "landed" and remained ever since. I'm lucky to be responsible of the Roman site of Stabia for directing and coordinating excavations and restoration projects, teaming up with archaeologists and restorers from all over the world. I have also been a licensed tour guide of the Campania Region and Vatican city and Colosseum since 2014, so when I'm not involved with excavation work, I love to share my time and my knowledge with students, art lovers and tourists showing them the archaeological and artistic treasures of this enchanting corner of Italy. Now I live and work in Rome as I feel like it's my native city and always fascinated with the Ancient Rome since I was a child. The Ethernal city is absolutey magic in every its corner. I specialized in Roman archaeology and Rome it's my hometown where I feel home 100%. I look forward to showing you the best ones and live an amazing experience together exploring the best. I graduated at the University of Bologna obtaining a degree in Cultural Heritage and then I completed the postgraduate specialization in Classical and Roman Archaeology at the University of Padova. Overview of your Rome tour

I'll lead you in a walk through the Roman ruins in the ancient town of Ostia. One of the most significant Roman archaeological sites, which gave us back a lot of important aspect and information in its relationship with the town center and how Rome controlled the trade. It can be defined like a small Pompeii, just a few kilometers away from Rome. Ostia was one of the first villages conquered by Rome; it immediately became a river port acquiring a commercial function to supply Rome with food, particularly wheat, even if its defending military function as naval base certainly prevailed. We will have the chance to explore together and understand deeper Roman world. It will be a fascinating walking tour through the monumental theater built by Emperor Augustus, the large square in the back with precious mosaics on the floor, the big public thermal baths with an amazing mosaic representing the God Neptune and the original Roman street with the ancient cemetery.

This was our third tour with Paolo and things just keep getting and better. Ostia Antica is Pompeii without the crowds or Vesuvius and is a "must see" for anyone with an interest in ancient Rome. Paolo's knowledge of ancient Rome combined with his friendly, engaging demeanor and his sparkling personality bring the ancient city back to life. Whether it's your first visit or if you've been there multiple times, having Paolo guide you through the ruins is a wonderful experience that you will never forget.

If you take only one tour in Rome, take this one! Paolo's knowledge and expertise are readily evident, but it is his style and easily understood way of imparting facts that makes this tour so enjoyable. He is generous with his time and encourages questions. Paolo, "il dottore", provides an exceptional journey back to Ancient Rome and the importance of Ostia Antica.

Absolutely fantastic tour! Paolo was exactly the guide for us; he is an expert with vast knowledge and insight into Ancient Rome and the ancient sites but he is also a great communicator. Our time with Paolo at Ostia Antica was quite riveting; Paolo introduced us to the historical context and life in Ancient Rome became imaginable! What a marvellous memory to have from our holiday.
