Ciao! My name is Valerio, I'm 36 years old I live in Rome and I'm an archeologist. I graduated in Archaeology in 2015 and in the late 2017 I got a Master Degree in Science of Archeology and Methodology of Archeological Research. I passed my exam to become a tour guide in July 2018, I can legally exercise the profession on national level, and I have also the license as tour leader. I was born and raised in Rome, and I chose to be an archeologist at a young age, fascinated by the work that I saw everytime I went in the center of my city, by the huge buildings thousands of years old and the incredible history behind them. That feeling of pride and luck and fascination, is still the same, even today. With my friends I found the passion of telling the history and the secrets behind the Colosseum, the Imperial Forums, what did we archeologists do on a dig site, and I found them so interested in what I was telling them to make me ask myself: why do I not make this a profession? I mean, I enjoy telling stories, I studied hard to do so, so why not? So I became a Tour Guide, and I enthusiastically lead people who choose me as their guide on the same paths that fascinated me, assured that the feelings that pushed me to study archeology will be felt by those same people I'm leading. We will enter the Colosseum, for a complete visit of its floors, comprehending the methods of how it was built, and we will see the arena and the subterrenean area where the gladiators and the beasts were kept. I will show you where I dug during my university years, and I'll give you some anecdotes that not everyone knows about an actual dig site in the most visited monument of the world. You will have some insights on how an archeologist works and I will show you one of the best (if not the best) dig sites, and archeological park of Italy: Palatine Hill. At the end of the tour, I will lead you to one of the best city restaurants for a real food experience in Rome
Valerio did a fantastic job teaching us some of the history around the the colosseum, palantine hill, and the forum. He provided just enough information to keep us interested without overwhelming us with facts. He knows his way around the crowds. He is very pleasant and engaging.
A great tour was provided our group of 7 by Valerio. He is a very knowledgeable person having worked at the site several years ago. We enjoyed his insights on where to put our focus. Inside the Colusseum, he stopped and gave us a 15 minute presentation of life in that period that was outstanding. Throughout the tour, all of us enjoyed his wry sense of humor, especially when he talked about an archeologist’s view vs. the cinematic glorifications. I highly recommend this tour.
Valerio gave us a very fun and informative tour. He knew the background well and shared unique insights and perspectives. We absolutely enjoyed the whole area more with him guiding us through than we would have in our own or in a large group.

We had an amazing day with Valerio. His knowledge about not just archeology but also history and nature that was all around us. His stories about Palentine Hill, the Forum and the coliseum made them come alive. You could close your eyes and invision what life was like there. He was very detailed oriented which we really appreciated.
- Colosseum - Palatine Hill: Arc of Titus, Sacred road, Temple of Venus and Rome, the Roman Forum, the Basilica of Massentius, the Temple of Faustina and Antoninus, the Roman Senate. - Imperial Forums, via dei Fori Imperiali, Templum Pacis dig site, the Vittoriano Monument and Venezia Square. **IMPORTANT: at the entrance of the Colosseum there are security gates very similar to the ones at the airports. This may slow our pace even with "skip the line" priority tickets. **Remember that inside the Colosseum big backpacks are not allowed. Travel light! **Please note that the Colosseum can accomodate 3. 000 people at once for safety reasons. This could delay our entrance even with priority tickets. **Please note that I cannot provide a tour of the Underground Chambers of the Colosseum nor the Belvedere. The visits must be booked separately and both are group tours. At a request I can customize this tour but I'm not responsible for any delay that these reasons could cause.
