Hello everyone, my name's Paolo and I'm an archaeologist and a licensed tour guide. I was born in Forlì, a small picturesque city located in Northern Italy - not far from Bologna. And it was there, in my childhood, where I took my first steps in the world of archaeology, going with my friends in search of fossils and other ancient objects. I graduated at the University of Bologna obtaining a degree in Cultural Heritage, then I completed the postgraduate school in Classical Archaeology at the University of Padua, then I moved to Rome. I never quit studying and improving my knowledge as a professional archaeologist working on field and research so I also a got a Phd in Classical Archaeology at the Ludwig Maximilians Universität of Munich (Germany), wonderfull experience! To follow my passion and my job I have lived in several cities in Italy and Greece, such as Rome and Pompeii. Since 2009 I have enjoyed living and working in Castellammare di Stabia too, a quaint maritime town near Pompeii - where you could say I have "landed" and remained ever since. I'm lucky to be responsible of the Roman site of Stabia for directing and coordinating excavations and restoration projects, teaming up with archaeologists and restorers from all over the world. I have also been a licensed tour guide of the Campania Region and Vatican city and Colosseum since 2014, so when I'm not involved with excavation work, I love to share my time and my knowledge with students, art lovers and tourists showing them the archaeological and artistic treasures of this enchanting corner of Italy. Now I live and work in Rome as I feel like it's my native city and always fascinated with the Ancient Rome since I was a child. The Ethernal city is absolutey magic in every its corner. I specialized in Roman archaeology and Rome it's my hometown where I feel home 100%. I look forward to showing you the best ones and live an amazing experience together exploring the best. I've done a number of tours with Tours by Locals. I think that Paolo is the best guide that I have ever had. I say that seriously. Paolo and our excellent driver took us to Positano and Pompeii, and both were amazing places to see. Paolo had recently finished and excavation, published a book, and just has so much knowledge on Pompeii, and with over a 2 hour drive to get there from Rome, we were able to ask questions and glean quite a bit. I wasn't too keen personally on going to Positano but gained an appreciation after going. We had a nice lunch (my 14 yr. old had a lemon glace in...a lemon), and we would love to go back. The piece de la resistance was Pompeii. It was warm, but we had a breeze. Paolo's knowledge was amazing - and we wish we had more time there. My wife and 14 year old got warm with the heat - but I could have done all day there. And so could Paolo. Great to

Our family had a FANTASTIC day touring Pompeii and the Amalfi coast with Paolo. Paolo was engaging, extremely knowledgeable about the history of Pompeii and Italy, and was an all around great tour guide. Visiting Pompeii was one of the highlights of our trip to Italy. Thanks, Paolo!
If allowed, I'd award more than 5 stars. A group of 6 of us took the Pompeii & Positano tour and ended up spending more than 13 hours with him. If you want a guide with archeological and historical knowledge, expertise, hands on and onsite experience in the Pompeii area, I'm not sure you'll find better. The tour educated, engaged and entertained and he did it in a manner that all enjoyed. We wish we could have spend far more time with him at Pompeii. When back in area, would 100% use Paolo again!
