Ostia was one of the first villages conquered by Rome; it immediately became a river port acquiring a commercial function to supply Rome with food, particularly wheat, even if its defending military function as naval base certainly prevailed. Ostia is magical, I'll show you how much informative it is! It will be a fascinating tour through the monumental theatre built by Emperor Augustus, the large square in the back with precious mosaics on the floor, the big public thermal baths with an amazing mosaic representing the God Neptune surrounded by fantastic fish and the original Roman street with the ancient cemetery and multi-storey apartment blocks with the original stores on the street.
