Sólheimajökull, Private Glacier Hike

When I am guiding people over onto the glacier, and we reach the plateau, I usually say "Welcome to my office". As it turns out, I have a lot of "offices" around Iceland. And the glacier is by far one of my favorites. If you obviously need to be free of any serious medical condition, the glacier hike does not require you to be in great physical condition or have any technical experience. To me, this is the best part of it: It is very accessible, which leaves me with the possibility of sharing the glacier with almost anybody. As it is a private tour, it makes it much easier to stray away from all the other bigger groups also hiking the glacier. You will feel just as if you had the glacier for yourself. I will provide all the necessary glacier equipment: Crampons, Ice axe, harnesses, and Helmets.

We can depart either from Reykjavík or meet on location at the glacier of Sólheimajökull. From there, it happens as follows: - Gearing up - Walking 10 minutes to a viewpoint where I will tell you about glaciers. - Walking another 10 minutes to the edge of the glacier, we will put on crampons - I will tell you everything you need to know about safety and technics about how to walk on a glacier. - We will hike 45-60 minutes on the glacier - And then, we will return the same way, (without the speeches!) - After we gear off, you are free to go, or I can drop you back in Reykjavík, it is as you wish!
