Since I was a teenager I have been travelling around Iceland in my free time - and even today that is what I do when I'm on holiday. Iceland is a endless treasure chest - filled with nature, history and geology, plus of course, stories of people, elves and other Icelander's, and there's always something new to see. I love showing people my beautiful country, so working as a tour guide is my dream job. I started working as a tour guide many years ago, around 1990, but just as a side job. However, from the beginning of 2022, I have been doing it full time. I've been working in tourism for many years, teaching in the icelandic guiding schools, working in safety in tourism and in search and rescue. I'm also a bestseller author of books about Iceland, so travelling and tourism have been my life. My favorite thing is to guide people who are interested in our nature, history and geology, and I love to tell people about those things, but also about things that make us Icelanders unique. For example, how is it to live in a country with so many eruptions and earthquakes. How can we live here in winter when we only have a few hours of daylight? Do we really have daylight 24 hours a day in summer? And lets not forget about the elves - do Icelanders believe in elves? I look forward to take you on one of my tours and tell you about what makes Iceland like no other country in the world, and of course, tell you some stories along the way. Who knows - maybe we will add an extra unexpected stop! I am a Licenced Tour Guide in Iceland, and possess a Hiking Guide License too. I also have a Day Tours permit, as well as permit to transport tourists in my own vehicle - LandRover Defender (4 pax) but I also have access to other vehicles for more passengers if needed. Love to make customize tours so don't hesitate to contact me. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Rural Tourism, which further helps me to create good experience for my guests. I have been an active member of Search & Rescue for 35 years, as well as working in search and rescue too, by teaching about safety in Tourism, outdoors, first aid, orienteering and more for many, many years. The South Coast will show you what Iceland is about: join me in one of Iceland's most popular tours, but with an unexpected twist: an adventure. Let's start with the Skógafoss waterfall, where a treasure lies hidden behind. This place is also where the most famous kiss in Games of Thrones took place. Where else can you almost reach out and touch the waterfall? And this is just the start - from here, we'll visit a dramatic viewpoint in front of the Sólheimajökull glacier. In a short distance from the glacier, the Black Sand Beach will surprise you - not only by the sand's color, but by amazing basalt columns and lava formations you won't expect. Let's not forget about Door Hill Island which is actually not an Island and of course we will hike towards the Sólheimajökull glacier - enjoy the icebergs on the lagoon and of course the glacier.
·I will pick you up from your accommodation in the Reykjavik area early, since there's about a two and a half hour scenic drive to our first stop. ·After about an hour, we'll do a practical stop in the village of Hvolsvöllur for toilets and snack/drinks. ·An hour later, we'll arrive to our first main stop: Skógafoss where we will enjoy the waterfall. ·From there, we'll take a short drive to the Sólheimajökull glacier, and go on an approx. 50 minutes walk (25 mins one way, 25 mins to come back) to and from the glacier. ·Our next stop, Black Beach, has black sand, basalt columns and amazing lava formations and from there we will drive to the magnificent Door Hill Island - in summertime the home of the puffins. ·Next, we'll go on an approx. 45 minute drive to Seljalandsfoss waterfall where we will stop for about half an hour. . ·From here, we'll go on a short of 2, 5 hour drive back to Reykjavík, expecting to get there around dinner time. This itinerary is customizable.
