Since I was a teenager I have been travelling around Iceland in my free time - and even today that is what I do when I'm on holiday. Iceland is a endless treasure chest - filled with nature, history and geology, plus of course, stories of people, elves and other Icelander's, and there's always something new to see. I love showing people my beautiful country, so working as a tour guide is my dream job. I started working as a tour guide many years ago, around 1990, but just as a side job. However, from the beginning of 2022, I have been doing it full time. I've been working in tourism for many years, teaching in the icelandic guiding schools, working in safety in tourism and in search and rescue. I'm also a bestseller author of books about Iceland, so travelling and tourism have been my life. My favorite thing is to guide people who are interested in our nature, history and geology, and I love to tell people about those things, but also about things that make us Icelanders unique. For example, how is it to live in a country with so many eruptions and earthquakes. How can we live here in winter when we only have a few hours of daylight? Do we really have daylight 24 hours a day in summer? And lets not forget about the elves - do Icelanders believe in elves? I look forward to take you on one of my tours and tell you about what makes Iceland like no other country in the world, and of course, tell you some stories along the way. Who knows - maybe we will add an extra unexpected stop! I am a Licenced Tour Guide in Iceland, and possess a Hiking Guide License too. I also have a Day Tours permit, as well as permit to transport tourists in my own vehicle - LandRover Defender (4 pax) but I also have access to other vehicles for more passengers if needed. Love to make customize tours so don't hesitate to contact me. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Rural Tourism, which further helps me to create good experience for my guests. I have been an active member of Search & Rescue for 35 years, as well as working in search and rescue too, by teaching about safety in Tourism, outdoors, first aid, orienteering and more for many, many years. If you are visiting Iceland in summertime - from late June until beginning of September - this Landmannalaugar Highland day tour is the best of the best, and only possible to visit in summer. Amazing landscape, geothermal activity, volcanic craters, breathtaking scenery and a visit to a hot spring natural pool. The Landmannalaugar area is a high temperature geothermal area, which means the geology is quite unique - all the colours, bubbling water, mud hot springs, mossy green mountains and beatiful mountain lakes. Besides this there's of course the hot spring's geothermal natural pool which you will soak in before our drive back to Reykjavik! In my LandRover Defender, I'll bring you safely to our tour's main spots while I will tell you everything about the areas - the geology - the history - the stories. This is my favorite area, which I know very well as can be seen in the book I wrote about hiking here - a bestseller in Iceland in the year 2021. The following itinerary could be customized upon request:
-I'll pick you up at your lodging early in the morning, since we'll be heading to the mountains. You can bring some food packed, or we can stop at a grocery store on the way. We have about a 2 hour drive to the highlands. -Our 1st stop is Sigöldugljúfur waterfalls, which officially have no name, they were discovered few years back. After a short walk to enjoy the waterfalls, we'll have 1 hour drive to our next stop. -We'll get to Ljótipollur crater, which translates into Ugly Puddle even though this is one of the most beatiful volcanic craters in Iceland. After walking around the crater's rims, we'll drive approx. 1 to our next stop. -We'll reach the Frostastaðavatn viewpoint: WOW! -Approx 30 min later we'll reach Landmannalaugar. Hiking boots on, we'll be walking around the area for 1, 5 hours, visiting some hidden gems, hot springs and the Green canyon. After the walk, we'll soak in the natural geothermal hot spring, so bring swimsuits! -After an amazing day, we'll do a 3 hour drive back to Reykjavik.
