Hi, I'm David I was born in London and, apart from a few years, have lived here my whole life in this remarkable city. I have been organising and leading walks for a number of years, more recently focusing on leading walks around London, bringing its stories and secrets to life. I am now a London Blue Badge Guide but for most of my life I was an antique restorer, working mostly with furniture but also on other various works of art. This was work where I increased my appreciation and interest in history and which took me to many impressive homes and interiors, including stately homes and the Houses of Parliament. My Blue Badge qualification, earned after nearly two years of intensive study, allows me to guide Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral, Tower of London and Windsor Castle. There are many other fascinating London locations to visit such as the British Museum, the Churchill War Rooms, watching the Changing of the Guard and numerous museums and galleries including the Victoria & Albert Museum. I can offer walking tours of London with themes such as Roman London, Legal London, Royal London, City of London and Maritime Greenwich. Walking is the best way to see most of London but you can also use various means of public transport such as the Underground ( Tube), buses, black taxi cabs and boats along the Thames. Although a driver is not necessary in London a chauffeured private car is also an option. For those wishing to explore beyond the Capital, as well as Windsor, sites such as Oxford, Hampton Court Palace and Stonehenge are all within an easy journey of London. For these visits travel options include either train or private chauffeured car. London still enthrals me, and, after all these years living here, I still get excited, enthusiastic and inspired about learning something new. I want to share that enthusiasm for one of the greatest cities in the world, telling stories of its many layers of history. Personal Interests. Within a short train journey from central London we will visit, probably, the best surviving 16th century Palace and its gardens, on the banks of the River Thames. This magnificent Tudor Palace was started in the early 1500s and we will see the largest surviving, and best preserved, Renaissance kitchens in Europe and Henry's fabulous Great Hall. This visit is the chance to see two palaces in one as we will walk through the Baroque apartments created for William and Mary by Britain's greatest architect, Sir Christopher Wren. To add to the intrigue the Palace is said to be haunted. We will finish with the gardens - about 60 acres of formal gardens surrounded by 750 acres of deer park (Home Park). For the setting, variety and history this is one of my favourite places to visit. (Please note the Palace is often closed on Monday and Tuesday)
Meet at Waterloo Station (train journey about 40 minutes). Overview and introduction outside the Palace. 16th century kitchens. Great Hall. Chapel Royal (normally closed to visitors on Sunday). Three Courts (including Clock Court with the amazing astronomical clock). Royal apartments of William III and Mary II. The Gardens. 16th century Real Tennis Court (when open) The tour should take approximately 2.5 hours after which you can return to London immediately or stay to explore the grounds more, or to have something to eat, and return later.
