Hi! My name is Jenny and I've lived in London most of my life. I love showing people round my favourite city and sharing the stories that make it such a fascinating place. As a qualified City of London Guide and Green Badge Guide, I have a wealth of knowledge about London and its rich history. Before becoming a guide, I was an English teacher, teaching English to adult learners from all over the world. As part of this role, I took my students on trips to the Tower of London and other historical and cultural places. I enjoyed this so much that I decided to take early retirement from teaching and become a tour guide. I've never looked back and love every minute of my new career. My other previous career as a journalist also feeds into my tour guiding - it has given me an eye for a compelling story, and the skills to tell that story in a way that's engaging as well as informative. I studied English Literature at university, and have a passion for reading. So I'm particularly interested in the London of William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, Samuel Pepys and Samuel Johnson, all of whom have strong connections to the city. I can show you the places where they lived, worked and wandered, and we can even have a drink in one of the atmospheric historic pubs where some of them spent many a convivial evening! As well as being a paid guide, I volunteer at St Paul's Cathedral, where I do tours as well as welcoming visitors and answering their questions. I am also a Freeman of the City and recently exercised my right to drive sheep across one of London's bridges. I can tell you all about this and the City of London's many other colourful traditions which date back centuries. I look forward to showing you the city which I love so much! As well as the tours listed here, I can tailor a tour for your particular requirements. City of London Tour Guide ITG Green Badge Guide Volunteer Guide at St Paul's Cathedral Freeman of the City of London BA (Hons) English Literature My tours are walking and public transport only. Some London attractions such as the Tower of London only allow Blue Badge guides to tour inside, so am unable to show people around inside.

We will see the Changing of the Guards from three different locations: St James Palace, Buckingham Palace and Wellington Barracks. We'll watch the Household Guard march along the Mall in their iconic red coats and bearskin helmets, accompanied by a military band, follow them to the palace, before heading to Wellington Barracks to see the soldiers returning from their shift. Afterwards we will walk through St James Park, former hunting ground of Henry VIII, and see the mounted Household Cavalry on duty at Horseguards Parade. We'll finish outside Wesminster Abbey, where Charles III was coronated. During the tour you will hear about the turbulent history of the Royal family, from executions to abdications. Note: The Changing of the Guards can sometimes be cancelled at very short notice for weather or security reasons. In this case, we will go to Horseguards Parade, where we will see the Changing of the Household Cavalry Guards instead.
