Hi, I’m Alasdair! I’m an Edinburgh native, and I’ve been a full-time tour guide here for nearly eight years. I’ve got a degree in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh, where I also studied Medieval and Early Modern Scottish History, Classics, and History of Art. I offer walking tours of the Old Town of Edinburgh, the New Town, the National Museum of Scotland, and an architecture tour spanning both the Old and the New towns; all fully bespoke, customisable experiences tailored to your interests. Edinburgh is a beautiful city, filled with stunning views and fascinating stories, and has been at the heart of much of Scotland’s rich, chaotic, and often hilarious history. Come along and join me for the stories of Edinburgh, of Scotland, and its people." Please note my tours are only in English, though I am able to at least translate words from Scots into English. Many thanks, Alasdair

Edinburgh is one of the most dramatic cities for architecture in the world. Shaped and styled over centuries, leaving Scotland's capital with a striking, if sometimes mongrel skyline. Come and join me for a tour of some of the key styles and their features around the Old and the New Towns of Edinburgh, and hear about some of the most influential architects that created these beautiful buildings. If you wish, I can personalize this tour according to your requests. Please message me and let me know!
- We'll start off in Parliament Square, looking at the wide-ranging influence of the Neoclassical. - From there it's on to St Giles Cathedral, and the Gothic. - Moving on we'll look at Gladstone's Land, and Vernacular Architecture. - From the foot of The Mound we transition from the Old Town to the New, and talk about William Henry Playfair, Robert Adams, and the other key figures that have left their marks on the city. - Following through the New Town, we can discuss Georgian Architecture, and Palladian that inspired both this and the Neoclassical. - We'll end by the Balmoral Hotel, and with the Scots Baronial Style

We'll be walking the whole tour, but around 1 mile total distance over 1.5 hours, and there are short cuts or wheelchair accessible alternatives available. I'm marking this at 1.5 hours, but I'm happy to extend to 2 hours for no extra cost if anyone in the group has mobility issues.
