My name is Ertunga and I was born in 1977 in Kusadası, where I still live. I graduated from the University of Philology, Department of English Language and Literature. I worked as an English Teacher for few years but I understood that it is not really what I wanted so I finished my short teaching career. Then I decided to study History and Archaeology and use my knowledge on this field. In 2001 I became professional tour guide, with the license issued by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Since then I have worked for many agencies as an independent guide and I have been meeting tourists from all over the world. During this fourteen years, I have also been organizing private tours, and working with ToursByLocals is perfect option for me. Since I grew up and have lived all my life in a touristic town, guiding has always been my dream. Very early I understood that it would be the most convenient job for my lifestyle, because I like history, archaeology, traveling and meeting different people and cultures, and the most important of everything, I love my country and want to help people see it's beauty and understand it's history and culture and at the same time, earning money from what I really enjoy doing; is a great feeling. I have guiding experience in all areas in Turkey, but my favorite tours are definitely those in the Aegean and Istanbul. Overview of your Kusadasi tour
During this tour, we will visit the highlight sites in the Ephesus area, the House of Mary, Temple of Artemis, and if your time allows, we can visit other sites too. It is believed Mary was brought to Ephesus by the Apostle John after the Resurrection of Christ. The catholic church that you can visit there was erected on the foundation of that house. Ephesus, well preserved and one of the most visited sites in Turkey, is a great place for history and photo lovers. Cleopatra, Mark Antony, and John the Apostle once walked its streets. I will explain to you about life in ancient Rome as you walk in the streets of this important city. There is not much to see in the Temple of Artemis, but its history is super interesting. I enjoy guiding in Ephesus, as every tour reminds me of our school excursions in the area. Being a local, I can give you information about recent excavations and findings. My favorite part of this tour is the moment when my guests see the monumental Celsus Library for the first time!
Your Kusadasi tour itinerary
-I will meet you at Kusadasi Port or in a hotel you are staying in. -After a short drive, we will visit the House of Mother Mary. -Then we will have 10 min. driving to the ancient city of Ephesus, the largest open-air museum in Turkey, the best-preserved classical city in the Eastern Mediterranean. -Then we will visit the Temple of Artemis which is one of the Seven wonders of the ancient world. -During this tour, if your timeframe allows, we can also visit Saint Johns Basilica and Ephesus indoor Museum where you can see statues and fragments found in Ephesus. -After the tour, you will be transferred back to Kusadasi.
