Explore Izmir your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Izmir tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Izmir for every interest, including:

History tours: Explore the Smyrna Agora to see colonnades and vaulted substructures, then ride up to Kadifekale for city-and-bay views of the ancient footprint. With a longer day, your guide can run you down to Selçuk for Ephesus, timing the Library of Celsus and the Terrace Houses to miss tour-bus surges.

Layover tours: Land at Adnan Menderes Airport and meet your guide for a fast circuit: İZBAN or car into town, a walk through Kemeraltı’s historic passages, a quick look at the Clock Tower on Konak Square, and a coast-side stroll along the Kordon in Alsancak before your return to the gate.

Museums tours: Focus on the Izmir Museum of History and Art in Kültürpark for sculpture and ceramics from regional digs, then the Arkas Art Center for rotating international exhibitions in a restored waterfront mansion. If archaeology is your thing, add the Ephesus Archaeological Museum in nearby Selçuk to round out the story.

Getting around: Central districts are fairly walkable, and metro, İZBAN commuter rail, trams, and ferries link major spots. For tighter timing or museum-to-site hops, you can book tours with private transportation or ask your guide to arrange a car.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Izmir inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Izmir

Stay in Izmir and use it as your jump point to coastal towns and classical sites, planning relaxed day trips that blend ruins, markets, and sea air within easy driving distance on your tour.

- Ephesus and Selçuk: walk marble streets to the theatre and Library of Celsus, then add nearby stops like the Basilica of St. John or the Artemis site, a strong choice if you like layered history and prefer a route that balances busy highlights with cooler, quieter corners your guide knows.

- Pergamon (Bergama): ride up to the acropolis for citywide views, explore the steep theatre and altar area, and drop to the Asclepion for Roman-era medical ruins, a good fit for archaeology fans who want fewer crowds than Ephesus yet big-ticket history in one day.

- Alaçatı and the Çeşme Peninsula: wander stone lanes, see simple windmills, and pair beach time with a walk around Çeşme Castle and the marina, ideal if you want a mix of light history, cafés, and swim stops without long kilometres.

- Urla peninsula: follow farm roads to olive groves, art studios, and vineyard stops, then linger over Aegean seafood in a small harbour, an easy-going route for food and craft lovers that keeps driving short and tastings unhurried.

- Sığacık and ancient Teos: circle the small citadel, browse the market on the right day, and step through the quiet ruins of Teos for theatre stones, city walls, and sea views, a compact outing when you want local life and archaeology without a full-day push.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Izmir most travellers miss.
