Half Day in a Natural Park and Religious retreat
Overview of your Barcelona tour
Montserrat is my second home, visiting 4 or 5 times a week, I can go with my eyes shut. Montserrat, the Natural Park is a multi-peaked mountain shaped by the wind and rain and that is where it's name comes from, as it looks like a saw, the serrated mountain. Almost to the top we find Santa Maria de Montserrat, the monastery, Catalonia's most important religious retreat. Inside the Basilica we can see the Virgin of Montserrat (La Moreneta - the black virgin), is Catalonia's Virgin. Montserrat mountain is an inspiration for Gaudi than he adapts in Sagrada Familia, Casa Batllo and La Pedrera. Also Gaudi worked in the reconstruction of the Basilica as an apprentice.

Great visit to Montserrat. Francisco was terrific and fun to be with. Our group of 6 was in two different hotels and there was extensive construction on the roads between. He and the driver did some gymnastics to get all of us and our luggage in the van at the start of the trip, then dropped us off at our cruise ship. Wish we could have heard the boys choir, but it was a Saturday and they don't perform then. Francisco is also a very good photographer and took some great shots of our group.

Francisco was wonderful and this tour was fantastic! Francisco is knowledgeable, interesting and accommodating. We had two people in our group with mobility issues and Francisco bent over backwards to make sure they were comfortable and had what they needed! We had so much fun on our tour, enjoying the history, beautiful scenery and awe-inspiring cathedral - all accompanied by Francisco’s great story-telling. And to top it off he’s an excellent photographer and he took photos of us and sent them to me that evening. Montserrat is a “can’t miss” when you’re in Barcelona and Francisco is the best tour guide!!

Wow! Franscisco is a Fantastic tour guide! We were delighted when he adjusted our tour time to accommodate our delayed flight arrival by 2 hours. We experienced Montserrat in late afternoon and evening when it was not busy. This allowed him to show and explain this amazing Basilica. We have visited before (not with Francisco) in the daytime and loved this place. But he gave us so much more information and answered our questions. He’s a great guide. And the driver and van provided were excellent. Especially meeting us in the airport right outside customs!! Another wonderful ToursByLocals experience!
Your Barcelona tour itinerary
Montserrat is about one hour drive, where we will see all the growing towns on Barcelona's outskirts, where many Barcelonias have move to live. Once we reach the bottom of the mountain we will drive from the back to the front, to see a great scenery drive of the Mountain. When we reach the Parking, we will walk to one of the best birdpoint views of the region about 750 meter high from the sea side level and and overall look of the area, then we will pass by a local stores where you can sample local food like cheese, liquores, figcakes, membrillo (Quince), etc. We will then visit the Monastery and the Basilica. Return to Barcelona, cruiseship or airport.
