Hola!! I'm Dr. Tate C. an Official Catalan Tour Guide (skip the line guide), researcher and writer. Like Antoni Gaudí, I was born and raised in Reus, and also like him I moved to Barcelona for my college education. This city trapped both of us. Being a former university professor, today I combine my tours, with my writing and with my academic life: congresses, research, and publications. My scholar research allows you to dig deeper and ask plenty of questions . . . More depth than breath :-) For my tours I use my own set of Radioguides, what is commonly called whisperers or quiet boxes. I will talk to a microphone and you will have a tiny earphone, similar to an earring which will highly improve the quality of the visits, specially in noisy areas, inside the taxis, and of course. . . in La Sagrada Familia! Thanks to the whisperer system, you can take pictures and walk medium distances from the grup while you keep listening to my explanations and do not lose track of the tour :-) Don't take me as a boring scholar guide. I will take you to try Tapas, we can explore the every-day life of the city, take amazing family pictures on the seafront. . . And as I love art, culture, travelling, and picture taking, we can share our experiences and I am sure that I will learn lots from you and your country!! I am a holder of a PhD in Journalism and Communication, as well as a degree in Translation and Interpreting. I have written numerous books and guidebooks on Gaudí and other catalan architects. We can talk about buildings; but we can talk about food, traditions, ways of living, politics, economy. . . Life in Barcelona and in Catalunya fascinates me and I love to share my views with visitors and learn about your opinions. Walking along with me is fun and deep. Picasso's story with Barcelona is a love one. Wherever you travel in the world there is a Picasso Museum. But Barcelona's was the first one in 1963, Why? Here he was raised up as an artist and firmly decided to become one; here he kept his best friends and buried his parents and sister, here he had his first solo show, here he donated his most beloved works . . . The most famous artist ever, with more than 16, 000 works documented, had a special feeling towards our city. Pablo felt oppressed by his father when the family moved to Barcelona in 1895, and could not overcome his sister Conchita's death. . . Let's see that in his paintings. Our Tour focuses on those formative years in Picasso's life. Let's follow his trails. We will visit the Picasso sites, his first inspirations and the influence of the bohemian circles in Barcelona at the time: the places that hosted his firts exhibits, the cafés where he met the bohemian of the time, where he lived, where he studied.
Tate brought the young Picasso to life explaining his influences and experiences in and around the streets and buildings of Barri Gotic and El Born districts finishing at the Picasso Museum. A wonderful experience for us. Thank you Tate Mark W
Tate modified our tour to tailor our tour to our areas of interests, and added some very interesting insights. The tour was well paced, yet thorough. After the tour, Tate provided excellent suggestions on what to see, local transportation options, and dining. If you want to see and hear about Picasso, you should book this tour with Tate.
Tate' is phenomenal! This was my third tour with her and it was much more than just the Picasso museum. She guided me through the Gothic Quarter showing me things we skipped before and highlighting the early life of Picasso in Barcelona. We then went to the museum where she gave me more background and history of his complex personal life and how it impacted his painting. Thank you, Tate', I'll see you next year! Oh, and publish more books about Barcelona in English!
Tate was articulate, informative, and fascinating as she presented Barcelona and Picasso to us. She oriented us well at the start and continued throughout with insightful thoughts and intriguing places. As well, Tate was adaptable to our interests and needs. The combination of her lively and passionate personality and rich knowledge and experience created a very enjoyable and rewarding time!
Tate made a careful exploration of our knowledge of Picasso's Barcelona, and his artwork, and then tailored our tour to meet our needs and interests. She is an expert in Picasso, and anyone who likes Picasso's work should book a tour with her.
We would highly recommended Tate. She was always quick to share stories of the surrounding area and historical perspectives, in addition to tons of interesting tidbits about current-day Spain from a local's viewpoint. She was engaging and our group had a great time and learned a lot!
