Hi, My name is Alan. Although I was born in France and have lived in the UK, Italy, and Argentina, Catalonia has been my home for close to 20 years. I still don't know if I chose it or if it chose me, but what's drawn me to this place are its people, the culture, and history, not to forget its beautiful landscape. My free time is spent outdoors, climbing, trail running, mountain biking, or simply walking, observing, and reconnecting with nature. I'm a translator and interpreter, but my passion for the outdoors led me to become a guide in 2017. I am a qualified Mountain Leader and a member of the Union of International Mountain Leaders Associations (UIMLA). My tours are focused on giving you the opportunity to discover areas of natural beauty, away from the crowds. On a day out with me, we'll not only get to take some great pictures and be in awe of the many breathtakingly beautiful landscapes Catalonia has to offer, but we'll get to disconnect from the city and connect with nature, become more familiar with some of the local flora and fauna and inevitably enjoy some local products. My aim is for you to have a truly memorable and unique experience in nature, and for this to be a highlight of your stay in Catalonia. People inevitably come to Barcelona to visit the city but there are many amazing sites to discover close to the capital too, like Montserrat, the Costa Brava, or any of the mountains near the Catalan capital. I take great pride in the work that I do and always prioritize working with small groups. I get to be outdoors every day and feel very fortunate to be able to share some of Catalonia's treasures with people from all around the world. On this tour we will visit the Benedictine Abbey, the Basilica, get to see the throne of the Black Madonna and then head high into the mountain to better understand the story behind this awe-inspiring site. As we walk around the mountain we will discover some of the local flora and fauna, and enjoy some of the most mesmerising and spectacular views you'll get to see whilst in Barcelona.
Everything about our day and tour of Montserrat was fabulous! From the transportation, to the hike from the top of the funicular to the monastery, to the boys choir and the basilica, to the meal and tasting at the winery. Alan did an excellent job of coordinating it all! Don’t miss it.
Would recommend anyone wanting a great guide to use Alan. Our group of 8 had a great time while learning so much.
Alan was great. He was kind, gracious, accommodating and very knowledgeable guide. His English was very good and easy to understand. His knowledge of the area made it truly exceptional. We are active people and, after seeing the incredible Monastery, we got to go up on top of the mountain and do some hiking. It was an incredible day. I highly recommend Alan and would not hesitate to book him again.
If there is an art to being a good guide, Alan is an artist; he demonstrated an attentiveness to our needs and preferences that lasted throughout the day. Rather than reciting a canned program, the breadth and depth of Alan's knowledge enables him to speak not only about the cultural aspects of the monastery and pilgrimage sites but also the natural history of Montserrat and its flora and fauna. Montserrat is a unique experience. Alan helped us enjoy that experience even more.

Alan exceeded our expectations with outstanding service, a wonderful itinerary and exceptional knowledge of Monserrat's history. Knowing that we love hiking, he arranged to have us hike the hills above Monserrat. We went up the funicular and experienced the views from every direction and the unique geology of the area. Upon leaving Barcelona we will head west towards the heartland of Catalonia, the mountain of Montserrat. We will be able to appreciate this magnificent mountain from all sides. Once there, we will first visit the Monastery (established in 1025) and its Basilica, and have the opportunity to see the revered statue of the Black Madonna (Moreneta), patroness of Catalonia. We will then head up into the mountain on the funicular to discover this incredible landscape and find out about this magnificent geological formation, home to some surprising species of flora and fauna. We will have countless opportunities to take spectacular pictures and explore this unique mountain before heading back to the monastery where you will have some free time before we drive back to Barcelona.
