Montserrat, the Natural Park is a multi-peaked mountain shaped by the wind and rain and that is where it's name comes from, as it looks like a saw, the serrated mountain. At Barcelona we will take the train Santa Maria de Montserrat, the monastery, Catalonia's most important religious retreat. Inside the Basilica we can see the astonishing stained glass and the Virgin of Montserrat "La Moreneta" (the black virgin), is Catalonia's Virgin. This tour allows us to take a the Funicular of Sant Joan even further up the Mountain, then we will hike down towards Sant Miquel Cross with its panoramic view of the religious retreat and then back to the base where we started to see the Basilica.
- Meeting point at Plaza España, where we will take a regular train to take us to Monistrol de Montserrat, town at the bottom of Montserrat National Park. - At Monistrol de Montserrat we will take the rack railway (cogwheel train), a train trip that will take us along the mountain up with magnificent views of the valley to reach to Montserrat Religious retreat. - Visit the Monastery: Basilica and the Throne of the Black Madonna. - Take the Sant Joan funicular railway, to even go further up in to the mountain for some astonishing views and hike. when operational we can also take the Santa Cova funicular and hike to see the Holy Cave. - We will have time to visit the souvenirs shop, taste the liquors made by the monks, the coffee shop for some drinks and sandwiches and the local Flea Market where we can sample locals cheese, honey, fig cake, Mel I Mato. - Return to Barcelona, taking the rack railway down (cogwheel train) and the regular train to Plaza España.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
