The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón is a novel set in Barcelona, in the sombre years after the Spanish Civil War. The young hero, Daniel Sampere, is taken by his father to the The Graveyard of Forgotten Books, where he discovers a book that will make him relive the story of a series of characters that time had almost relegated to oblivion, and a world of only-too-real intrigues and secrets will unfold before his eyes. This book has been a successful bestseller worldwide and many readers have been appealed by the pages of Zafon that take you to experience a very different face of Barcelona. While we are following the plot of the book, we will stroll through the old streets and squares in which the story unfolds, we will read parts of the book and we will connect it with the history of Barcelona. Through this tour about this novel we'll discover a very interesting part of Barcelona: the so called Barrio Gótico (Gothic Quarter) and the surroundings of Las Ramblas, the famous promenade of Barcelona.
We were very happy to see the places related to Carlos Ruiz Zafon’s Books. Marga also introduced other sites along the route (for example seeing the Roman columns and burial sites was a bonus). After the tour, we visited one of the restaurants and a cafe which were part of the book, which Marga showed us. We liked that it was a personal tour and not with a group. Three hours was an optimal time for the tour.

This was a very knowledgeable tour, extremely adding on the initial topic, into the history of the city. She was a wonderful guide with a deep resource of history and culture. She had fantastic recommendations for the rest of our trip.
We will start the tour in the downtown area of Barcelona.
