I am originally from Amsterdam in Holland, but have lived in Barcelona for almost 25 years, so I combine an international perspective with deep local knowledge. The best way to explore Barcelona is on foot through the narrow winding streets, visiting areas that are more than a thousand years old, and exploring the port of Barcelona with its many restaurants and old fisherman vibe. On this tour I will take you to local places and restaurants unknown to most tourists where will try authentic tapas. We start with a visit of a local market followed by a walk through the Gothic Quarter towards the harbour. Here we try traditional tapas at one of the oldest tapas bars in the fishermen's neighbourhood Barceloneta. We then move on to the Bohemian Borne area where we'll try modern style tapas and we'll end the tour in a restaurant famous for its world fusion tapas. Besides getting to know Barcelona, we will learn about how tapas have evolved. The price of this tour does NOT include the food and drink.
Our family had a wonderful tapas and wine tour with Iris. She was very knowledgeable about the city architecture and neighborhoods which was a wonderful bonus. We stopped at 3 tapas spots that we never would have found and were all superb. Iris was also very patient and accommodating with our mobility challenged father.
Iris was friendly, and easy to talk with. We enjoyed the trip through the market and learning about the food and culture of Barcelona! The tapas we had were all delicious! We also enjoyed the walk and the information she shared along the routes we took. We are looking forward to her cooking class when we return to Barcelona next week.
Perfect introduction to Barcelona's amazing food! Iris was so knowledgeable of the culinary scene as well as history of the area. Felt like we spent the afternoon exploring with a friend!
It was FABULOUS!! Iris knows where to go, where to eat, what to eat and so much fun getting to know her and Barcelona. We arrived into Barcelona at 1pm and went with her the first night at 3:00 ! We toured a market and ate at 3 restaurants and lots of history walking around and got back to our hotel happy and full !! DO IT!
Iris was wonderful! She was so personable that she felt like a family friend. She spent hours showing us around Barcelona, sharing some of the city's history, and taking us to three different tapas restaurants with delicious food and wine. She also provided some insight on our next destination to Costa Brava and even made a lunch reservation for our drive north a few days later. I highly recommend Iris as a guide and will schedule time with her again if we return to Barcelona.
It was a great blend of history and food. Iris wound us through Barcelona’s beautiful streets and filled us in on the evolution of the city as well as the changes in the tapas culture. She also introduced us to vermut! The different tapas locations were all different and all delicious and Iris’s company was delightful.
-We will start the tour at one of the most emblematic local markets -We continue to visit the old and famous Gothic area with its Gothic Cathedral and charming squares -From there we explore Barceloneta, the old fishermen quarter where I'll take you to some best kept secret places -We then walk to the Born area, nowadays known for its bohemian, relaxed feel and local food and designer shops -This itinerary of this tour can be adapted to the client's preference or request.
