This private tour offers a deeper understanding of South Africa's apartheid era than what would be possible by just reading about it. As well as visiting the comprehensive apartheid museum, you'll drive through the township of Soweto, stopping at landmarks such as Nelson Mandela's House Museum and Archbishop Desmond Tutu's House. We will walk along Vilakazi Street, which is Soweto's most famous street because 2 Nobel Peace Laureates once lived on it (Mandela and Desmond Tutu). On this street, there are plenty of local specialty restaurants where you can choose to have lunch in. Of course I can always recommend one myself! You'll have the opportunity to follow the trail of the Soweto uprising, which consisted on students protesting the introduction of Afrikaans as an obligatory medium of instruction in their schools. As a local guide with 2 decades of experience under my belt, I'll be able to provide you with further insights into our local history and culture. The following itinerary could be customized:
·The tour will start by me picking you up in the morning, from either your hotel or any address given. ·I'll then proceed to share an introduction and tour overview with you. ·We'll drive through the affluent northern leafy suburb of Houghton Estate, where Nelson Mandela lived. ·We'll make a stop to take a photo of Nelson Mandela's house from the outside. ·We'll continue driving across Johannesburg downtown area and see a beautiful view of skyscrapers plus the Nelson Mandela Bridge. ·Next, we'll visit the Apartheid Musem. ·After exploring the museum, we'll have a lunch break. ·After our lunch break, we'll visit the Nelson Mandela House Museum for a 15-20 min guided tour. ·Next, we'll Visit Hector Peterson Memorial. ·Afterwards, we'll reach the Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication in Kliptown, where the Freedom Charter was adopted. ·We'll then drive through the Diepkloof section, where the first black middle class was established in Soweto. ·At last, I'll drop you off in your hotel or any location.
