Soweto, Lunch & Apartheid Museum Private Tour

Wonderful doesn’t begin to cover just how incredible this tour with Thabang was for us. Totally immersive in culture, history and food. Thabang’s passion for his beloved Soweto community gave us a realistic look at life there so very different than global news would have you believe. One of the many highlights was a tour of a poor settlement with Thabang’s lovely friend Wendy who was as warm and welcoming as the people in her neighborhood. Another highlight was Thabang’s contagious energy and brilliant storytelling which made Soweto come alive for us. A ten star tour…you won’t be disappointed!

Thabang was very knowledgeable and gave us a great sense of both old and new Johannesburg. He also challenged our preconceptions about Soweto, his home. He show us that crime was low and that people of varying means live in Soweto. I learned a great deal on Thabang’s tour.

We were in Johannesburg for just one day and wanted to see as much as possible in that short period. Not only did we see the highlights with Thabang, but he gave us insiders information about life in Soweto. He is a resident there and has family history about apartheid that he was willing to share with us. This is the kind of information you’d never get on a big bus tour, but with a private tour was available. He candidly answered all our questions and safely drove us in a very comfortable car. If I am ever in Johannesburg again, I will definitely call on him to be my guide.

Thabang has been graciously patient waiting for us while we find him in the airport due to some misunderstanding on our part. He customized our tour since our transit tour is limited to 3 hours. The tour was worthwhile even though it was cut shorter although he was willing to extend it further since we lost some time. He’s very knowledgeable of the city and provided us the history and current condition of the city. We highly recommend him.

Wonderful tour of the Apartheid Museum and Soweto. Especially enjoyed eating the local food in Soweto. Pickup from the airport and drop off at local hotel was much appreciated. My children (12 and 13) appreciated and enjoyed the tour as much as the parents did.

Phenomenal tour with mix of history, visit to important sites in Soweto, and extreme hospitality. Guide went out of his way to fit the tour to our requests along with his leadership on the priorities. One of the best tours I have ever been on and would recommend strongly for anyone wanting an authentic and meaningful experience.
