Overview of your Johannesburg tour

Full day tour of Soweto Township which we begin by browsing the city of Johannesburg which is the largest man made jungle in the world and also the largest city not built on a river, harbour, or situated on a lake. We then proceed to the Apartheid Museum which is our first stop. Nothing captures the dark Apartheid years better than the Apartheid Museum. From there we drive to Soweto and enter using the Military entrance named so because of a military base across the road which was used to monitor the movement of Soweto residents during Apartheid era. On our way we come across the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital which was once the largest in the world and now the largest in Africa and the Southern Hemisphere. You get to learn about its history and also why it was an important venue for the British Royal family including the young Queen Elizabeth to visit in 1947. We visit a squatter camp, a shanty town without electricity and plumbing.

Anthony was a terrific guide. He was knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Joburg and the Soweto Township. We appreciated his stories about growing up in Soweto and learning about the history of Apartheid coupled with a visit to the impressive Apartheid Museum and Nelson Mandela's home. We enjoyed a memorable lunch.

The tour provided by Nathan was very educational and gave a good overview of Soweto. I highly recommend his tour to anyone interested in learning more about Soweto, the past and present. It gave a good perspective of the culture and drive of the people. We drove around the township, had a personal tour in Soweto East Orlando area, Kliptown and around Jo'burg, etc. We enjoyed lunch at Sakhumzi. Thank you Nathan.

In early December we had the opportunity to arrange the Soweto Township tour with Nathan N in Johannesburg South Africa. Nathan was prompt, kind and knowledgeable of the areas we visited. He arranged the tour to fit our requests as to what we wanted to visit. Our only unease was the vehicle being older and no A/C.

Great trip - one thing I really liked was everything was inclusive - so no surprises when you turn up and realize you have more to pay to gain entry to museums/lunch, etc thought-provoking as we went around Soweto - would highly recommend
