This Private tour is for a solo single traveler, it is a Full day tour of Soweto Township which we begin by browsing the city of Johannesburg which is the largest man made jungle in the world and also the largest city not built on a river, harbour, or situated on a lake. We then proceed to the Apartheid Museum which is our first stop. Nothing captures the dark Apartheid years better than the Apartheid Museum. From there we drive to Soweto and enter using the Military entrance named so because of a military base across the road which was used to monitor the movement of Soweto residents during Apartheid era. On our way we come across the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital which was once the largest in the world and now the largest in Africa and the Southern Hemisphere. You get to learn about its history and also why it was an important venue for the British Royal family including the young Queen Elizabeth to visit in 1947. We visit a squatter camp, a shanty town without electricity and plumbing.
Nathan was a great tour guide - very knowledgeable, friendly and well organised. Nathan took me to see all sides of Soweto, which was fascinating and very eye-opening. Nathan was also very understanding when I came out of the Apartheid Museum - it is quite an overwhelming experience and he was very good at giving time and space, not just launching into the next bit of the tour. The whole tour was just a great experience - can't recommend it highly enough. Thank you!
Nathan did an excellent job showing me around Johannesburg and Soweto. Excellent historian. Was very flexible in picking me up and scheduling. Showed me a very unbiased view of the city. Nathan was an excellent guide. During my one day private tour, I got to really understand the history of Johannesburg and had time to linger in places of interest. Nathan's knowledge of the events, people and the area of Soweto gave me a local's perspective that you don't get when simply visiting a place and reading plaques. He answered my questions and was able to tie in the past with the present. I recommend Nathan was a tour for anyone who wants a truly customized experience.

(5)We drive past Regina Mundi Church used by the anti-apartheid activists as a meeting place and also where the Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu used to address the people. A spiritual home of the struggle because this is where political meetings, protest rallies, community gatherings and funeral services of many political victims were conducted.
