Explore Mossel Bay your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Mossel Bay tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Mossel Bay for every interest, including:

Nature and Wildlife tours: Hike a section of the St Blaize Trail above the cliffs, take a boat to Seal Island for close‑up views, or join a private game drive at Botlierskop or Gondwana just outside town.

Food and Drink tours: Sample fresh snoek, mussels, and calamari at harbour eateries, then taste small‑batch gin at Cape Saint Blaize Distillery. Add a countryside stop at Jakkalsvlei for a wine tasting and a farm‑style lunch.

History tours: Step into the Dias Museum Complex to see the replica caravel, post a note at the Post Office Tree, and climb the Cape St Blaize Lighthouse; your guide can also arrange a Point of Human Origins cave visit by prior booking.

The Point area and central harbour streets are walkable, but there’s little public transit and sights quickly spread along the coast. Book tours with private transportation or ask your local guide to arrange a vehicle for reserves, wineries, and out‑of‑town stops.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Mossel Bay inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Mossel Bay

Use Mossel Bay as your base and explore nearby towns and wild spaces on easy day trips, where your tour can lean into nature, history, or coastal views without long drives.

Knysna, about 90 minutes east, mixes lagoon views, simple seafood stops, and small markets. Your tour can circle viewpoints at The Heads, wander Thesen Island boardwalks, and slip into the forest for short walks where you look for birds and giant trees, so you get a clean mix of scenery and local life in one day.

Head inland over mountain passes to Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital with Karoo streets and big skies. You can visit the Cango Caves on a standard tour with site rangers, learn how ostrich farming shaped the town, and roll quiet backroads toward the Swartberg foothills for wide views and photo stops.

Point your tour west toward George and Wilderness for beaches, river lookouts, and fynbos. Stop at the Map of Africa viewpoint, walk the old railway path near Kaaimans, and paddle calm sections of the Touw River if you want an easy taste of nature close to town, which keeps the pace relaxed.

South along the coast, Stilbaai and Jongensfontein feel low key, with pale beaches, tidal fish traps that show ancient craft, and small farm stalls on country roads. Food lovers and photographers can keep it simple here, splitting time between coastal paths, local bites, and quiet viewpoints. These day trips work well with private tours you can shape to your interests.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Mossel Bay most travellers miss.
