We had a wonderful tour with Mmesi. He was a mine of knowledge and information and adapted the tour perfectly as we went along for my partner and I. We also really being introduced to Percy in Soweto and being invited into his home.
We four from USA were delighted that Mmesi Makhura gave us a comprehensive tour of Johannesburg focused on the life of Nelson Mandela, as we had requested. Mmesi met us at our airport hotel and drove us through the CBD, then to a tour at Constitution Hill, later along Munro Drive viewpoint to Houghton to Mr. Mandela's former homes and the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memories on the way to Sandton for lunch at Mandela Square before returning us back to our hotel. Mmesi was kind, gracious and always punctual.
Mmesi is a knowledgeable and engaged guide! He understands the importance of creating an experience that is personal and unique! When we arrived in Jo'burg we realized that the Apartheid museum would be closed in the afternoon when we planned to go. Mmesi rearranged our schedule so that we could still go! He is an expert in the local area and was able to answer our questions and engage us in thougutbful conversation! We highly recommend him!

Visit the biggest township in the Southern hemisphere. We will start our tour at one of the affluent suburbs of Soweto diepkloof ext. , drive past the biggest hospital in the southern hemisphere, see the Baragwanath flee market for locals. We drive past the Orlando towers, used to be a power station. It also has its history to discover. We continue passing the Maponya mall, the first big shopping mall in Soweto, then we go and pay a visit to the oldest informal settlement of Soweto. From there, we will visit the famous Vilakazi Street, home to two Nobel Peace prize winners Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. In the same street, we drive past the side of the student uprising of 1976 and finish off with the Hector Peterson museum.
