I’ve often been described as friendly and communicative, always eager to lend a helping hand. I was born in Lisbon and raised between this vibrant city and the Portuguese central-west coast, giving me an interesting blend of urban and coastal roots. I am a passionate surfer, and I have dedicated much of my life to the ocean and teaching this sport and lifestyle to others. I began my journey in the tourism industry in the late 90s, building a strong foundation of knowledge and experience. My love for sharing Portugal with travellers led me to take a degree in tourism (tour guiding and tourism marketing), for which I deeply studied Portugal and the best way to promote it. Later, a post-graduate degree in adventure tourism gave me better tools to explore and share my country's secrets. Since then, I’ve embraced the opportunity to welcome travellers from around the world, with whom I shared the essence of Portuguese culture. Now, as a proud family man with two children, I can confidently say that parenthood is the greatest adventure of my life. Music is my third passion; I studied jazz drumming and have enjoyed playing drums and percussion in various projects. Conscious that Lisbon’s strategic location offers access to some of Portugal's most authentic treasures within just an hour’s drive, I've crafted unique routes and experiences around the city. Stroll with me along its charming cobbled streets, where vibrant Bougainvillaea drapes the historic houses, leading us to a majestic 13th-century castle. My family and I can't say enough good things about Rui and the Nazare, Obidos, and surrounding area tour he gave us. Rui's knowledge of the local history, culture, politics, and food was second to none and he was tremendously patient, flexible, thoughtful, and flat out fun. He listened to what we were interested in seeing and doing and built the tour around that. His vehicle was clean, comfortable, and easily accommodated our group of 5. We recommend Rui for any local tour, but if you're a history buff, surfer or interested in Nazare's surfing ecosystem, Rui's most definitely your guy. As a surfer and instructor, his insights and stories were fascinating, as were his discussions during the drive regarding the local history. In all, Rui's tour was like spending a day with an old friend we hadn't seen in a while. We can't wait to get back to Lisbon and book a second tour with Rui.

Perfect day with the perfect guide. Personable knowledgeable and fun to be with. Always wanted to see Nazareth and learn the history of surfing the huge waves. Being a surfer himself his feedback made everything real. Made several other interesting spots and had the most fabulous lunch together . Restaurant would have been worth the tour. Highly recommend. Tours by locals always have the best and this was surely one of them. .

I highly recommend Rui as a tour guide. I actually did two tours with Rui. One to Nazare and Obidos and the other to Sintra and Cascais. From the moment you meet Rui, you'll find him very personable and almost like a family member. He is extremely knowledgeable about Portugal and explains, in an interesting way, how the various leaders and the climate created culture and architecture of Portugal as we see it today. Your Lisbon tour itinerary
- We’ll be departing from Lisbon, taking the highway for a 90-minute to Nazaré - We’ll stop at Sítio da Nazaré, where you'll admire the magnificent view over the cliff and learn about the history and traditions of this iconic fishing town. - We’ll visit São Miguel Arcanjo Fortress to see the big wave surfboard exhibit. - There will be time to watch surfers tackle the big waves if there is a big swell. - We’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant (optional). - We’ll then drive 30 minutes to Óbidos, stopping at some local hidden gems. - After a 30-minute walking tour with me in Óbidos, you will have free time to explore this medieval village. - Finally, we’ll return to Lisbon. Note: *Please remember that we can always customise the tour and adjust it to your preferences.
