Overview of your Lisbon tour
Lisbon and Sintra reveal two very different sides of Portugal, and this private full-day tour connects them without turning the day into a race. We’ll begin with one major Sintra monument - often Pena Palace, with the required timed ticket planned in advance - plus the historic center and its royal setting. After lunch, we’ll return to Lisbon for a focused route through the part of the city that matters most to you: Belém and the Age of Discoveries, or the historic center, viewpoints and riverfront. Along the way, I’ll connect palaces and monuments with Portugal’s monarchy, maritime expansion and daily life today. Because both destinations offer far more than one day can hold, we’ll agree on clear priorities before the tour. Rui is the best!!! We were impressed by his knowledge about history and architecture. We got to learn a fun fact: how to identify tiles made before and after the year 1755. We even learned the origin of the Japanese word “Thank you.” However, a tourist can’t appreciate the culture fully without tasting the local delicacy. Beside treating us Sintra cheesecakes, he recommended a local restaurant that offered authentic Portuguese cuisine, not the genetic food for tourists. After the tour, Rui sent us the links for extended reading. (He’s probably the only tour guide who will do this. :)) What he has shown us is beyond our expectations. We feel this trip is the perfect back-door tour for travelers who really want to immerse themselves in and learn from this country. All thanks to Rui!

Rui picked us up exactly on time in a clean, comfortable vehicle. I'd emailed him in advance about what we were interested in but otherwise left it to him; he designed the perfect day for us! While driving, we learned much about the histories of Lisbon, Sintra and Portugal, and I feel like we saw everything we needed to (and plenty of bonus spots) in both places. The day was completely enjoyable, and I'd book another tour with Rui again in a heartbeat!
Your Lisbon tour itinerary
• Pickup at your Lisbon hotel, cruise terminal or agreed location. • Drive to Sintra, normally 40 to 50 minutes depending on traffic and pickup point. • One major Sintra visit, usually Pena Palace or another palace, garden or castle selected in advance. • Historic Sintra, with time for the town center and an optional local pastry stop. • Lunch in Sintra or along the return route. • Focused Lisbon visit: choose Belém and the riverfront, or selected historic neighborhoods, viewpoints and the city center. • Return to your Lisbon accommodation or cruise terminal. This tour includes one principal monument in Sintra and a focused Lisbon route so the day remains comfortable. Pena Palace admission requires a specific date and time; advance planning helps, but security checks, park transport and controlled entrances can still involve waiting. Monument tickets are not included.
