The Second Free City Gdansk - city state established according to the provisions of Versail's Treaty after the First World War was very important place for many European countries. The Germans felt humiliated by the provisions of the Treaty and Gdansk became the place of interest fighting of many countries and also intelligence agencies. Westerplatte Peninsula, which from the end of the 18th century was the part of the fortifications of the Prussian army and the base of the Napoleonic soldiers, was also a holiday resort and became the place given to Poland by the decision of the League of Nations in 1925. One of the English lords said that if a war started, it would start in Gdansk on Westerplatte. Maggie designed a customized tour for me that included all the places I requested including a number of places important to my family. I could never have found all of these places on my own. It was very important and meaningful to me to see these places and I greatly appreciate Maggie's efforts.
My wife and I spent a very special day with Maggie in Gadansk. We traveled to see the world class World War 2 museum and Maggie explained the history of occupation of Poland by the armies of Germany and Russia. she is a wealth of knowledge and knows her way around the city. We experienced a river cruise, we went to see where the Solidarity movement began, and we went to see where the Polish guard fought off the German navy as they attacked Gdansk. Maggie was an exceptional guide for the day!
Maggie gave us a tour of the WWII museum and the Solidarity Museum. She was also very good about sharing information of other places we were passing by. We appreciated her help with our changing circumstances and lost luggage. She accommodated us very nicely, and clearly cared about giving us a great tour. Thank you, Maggie!
Suggested itinerary: 1, 5 hours walk alongside Westerplatte Peninsula. 3 hours visit in WWII Museum (short breaks for tea/coffee in Museum bistro can be considered). 35 min bus transport from Museum to Westerplatte one way. In option highly recommended : boat trip to Westerplatte by Motlawa River can be included in summer season. During the boat trip you will see also The Old Harbour with The Old Crane, Olowianka Island with old granaries, Gdansk Harbour, Wisloujscie Fortress. You can also choose the car transport to Westerplatte which takes about 20 minutes. The tour can be modified or customized according to your wishes. Ask for an offer also for more travellers and boat availability after the summer season.
