Welcome to Mexico! I am Diego a certified private tour guide in the Riviera Maya specialized in Mayan archaeology, nature and adventure. I was born and raised in Chiapas, Mexico, a place surrounded by natural beauties and indigenous communities. I remember that since I was a little child, I dedicated myself to explore the most beautiful corners of my country: rivers, waterfalls, archaeological ruins and climbing volcanoes. Now my job is to share these experiences with others and to raise awareness in preserving our natural resources. Life took me to many places, and 12 years ago I decided to move to Playa del Carmen looking for a relaxing life near the beach. It is beautiful to live here, surrounded by culture, cenotes and the most beautiful beaches of Mexico. Since I arrived here I have worked as a tour guide, a very noble work and I love it. I have guided tours to Mayan ruins, underground caves, Mayan communities, jungle tours with activities like canopy, rappel, ATVs, snorkelin and I had the opportunity to take the great travel writer Rick Steves on two amazing tours here in Riviera Maya! I have learned a lot about the Mayas, their flora, fauna, medicinal plants. I have even learned to speak their local language Maya Yucateco. Now I want to share all these life experiences with you through my private tours, taking you to unique places, giving you the best of the Mexican Caribbean in your next vacation! Recently discovered, Ek Balam is one of the best preserved Mayan cities, its architecture and paintings are unique compared to other ruins in the area, I will reveal to you all the mysteries of the best preserved Royal tomb and together we will climb the pyramid to enjoy one of the best views of the mayan jungle. Later we will visit the colonial town of Valladolid a city transformed through history by the Spanish conquest, I will take you to discover the local lifestyle and its authentic colonial style architecture and the Mayan handicrafts. You will have the opportunity to try the best of delicious Mexican food and regional Mayan dishes, I will take you to the best restaurant in Valladolid, thanks to my local experience it will be an unforgettable experience. (Lunch not included) My favorite part of the tour will be swimming in the refreshing waters of the cenotes, This place is managed by a local Mayan family and it is not very visited by tourists so it will be a more authentic!

Our group first met Diego on our booked excursion in 2023 so this was our second experience with him as our guide. He is an amazing guide and we will book again with him when we return back to the area. We loved the Ek Balam tour and a bonus was that we never experienced huge tourist crowds. Ek Balam is great because it's relatively well-preserved, AND you can still climb on the ruins! Time flew on our drive because Diego provided great insight into Ek Balam and Maya culture. Diego knew the perfect spots for lunch and dessert in colonial Valladolid. Diego saved the best treat for last with an afternoon trip to a gorgeous cenote. Large tour buses don't visit this cenote, so we had it to ourselves. Words do it no justice, you'll just have to book with Diego to experience it yourself.
This tour was for my boyfriend, his father, his 86-year-old Grandmother and myself. Each of us LOVED the tour. We were treated to a clean sprinter van in great condition, with snacks and water. Diego and his driver Eric were friendly and professional. Diego dazzled us with his knowledge of the Mayan culture and history- so much so, my family still refers to it daily. • Pick up at your Hotel or location in a private vehicle. • Drive to Ek Balam (from 1h30m) • Guided tour in Ek balam with my extensive experience in the area and about the Mayan culture, it will take us around 2h to explore the whole place. • Drive to Valladolid colonial town (25m) • In Valladolid we will start with food first in a delicious local restaurant, (lunch not included) then we will explore the town, I can take you to see Mayan handcrafts, try the delicious local chocolate(*cacao was discovered in mexico), visit the temple of San Servacio, maybe a Tequilla or Mezcal bottle? whatever you want tell me and we will find it. • Drive to the Cenote (15 min) • You will have free time to enjoy the cenote, the time depends on you, here there is no rush, so you can relax and connect with nature. • Drive back to your location (1h20m approx)
